Johnson warns GOP will defy Dems’ possible new nominee

"House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) claimed during a Sunday interview with ABC News' This Week that Republicans are sure to present the Democrats with "challenges" in the case President Joe Biden decides to drop his bid for reelection, Politico reports.

Every state has its own system, and in some of these, it’s not possible to simply just switch out a candidate," the speaker said.

The GOP leader added, "I think in states where it can be contested, I expect that it will be, and they’ll have an interesting battle on their hands," referring to the Democratic Party's possible pivot to another nominee"...

Biden is out. So IMO any continued attacks against Biden are pointless. He will put more focus on the party using Biden as examples until Harris gets nominated then it will shift to her.
I agree that continued attacks against Biden are pointless, that was kind of my point. But I disagree that Trump will shift, not completely. Trump will continue to attack Biden because it is easier for him to do so.

Wow. You truly despise him.

I can't help but wonder which news are arriving in Egypt about Biden and the USA.

I rarely use Egyptian media for news about other countries, and when I do, I always check at least several sources of different leanings both from Egypt and outside it, as I do with news reports in general.

Are you assuming my stance on Biden is based on some local media rather than his actual policies as reported by, among others, the Associated Press, Reuters, the Hill, and the official government websites of Congress and the White House?

Maybe I should watch a bit more of Al Jazeera.

See above. I think you may have jumped to a conclusion about what sources I read or how I have formed my opinion of Biden.

I do occasionally check out Al Jazeera—almost exclusively the English version, which has relatively decent reliability ratings—along with the many other sources I use, but never on its own, due to my preference for cross-checking that I mentioned above.

Ok, a case of Moosehead?
Well, the other problem is we'd be on the same side! I think she can beat Trump myself. Perhaps not because she is an ideal choice -- but because all of a sudden, millions of torn Americans will now have a viable choice -- not so much between the worser of two evils, but between evil and hope. And that's a choice I myself would find comforting and easy to make.

However, happy to buy you a pint of Moosehead or two, if you're ever in the neighbourhood (I don't get very far from home anymore. Mostly just to my local.)

I am trying not to make that assumption. I am astounded by how deeply different your perception is from mine, and trying to understand why that is so.

For the time being, I assume that you have strong feelings of disapproval for how he has been handling the situation in Gaza. I have several reasons to wonder why that would weight so strongly in your feelings, but I have not conceived of a better explanation.

See above. I think you may have jumped to a conclusion about what sources I read or how I have formed my opinion of Biden.

Any sources that you might want to recommend for perhaps better understanding your feelings about Joe Biden?

(Although I hasten to add that, given your stated catalog of sources, I am now suspecting that the causes of your feelings come not so much from the news themselves but from somewhere outside them. Perhaps from some set of knowledge and expectations about the Gaza situation that are very much different from mine.)

I think he'll go through her like she's made of candy floss. I would put my money on a Trump landslide.
I think you'd regret the loss of your money!

What I said in Post #75, now that I've said it, strikes me as the most comforting thing that's crossed my mind about this race in many months. The simple change in the choice that Democratic and Independent (and even some moderate Republican) voters now have is going to start a wave of relief that is going to result, if not in a landslide, then at least a very decent performance in the other direction.

I predicate that, by the way, based on Harris being the Democrat's choice. If she is, we'll see a different Harris than we have in the past few years. She won't be 2-IC anybody, but top of the ticket. We'll see the successful prosecutor (facing a convicted felon) and Attorney General for a very large state - roles that require strong ability to think on one's feet.
