There is nothing special about being white. There is nothing special about being black. It's just a skin tone/where your ancestors were from. As an individual, it doesn't matter what colour my skin is or where my ancestors were from. My great grandfather was a Cherokee Native American, but does this mean I personally have overcome a hardship about being native american? I don't like it when all of this time later, people feel the need to say black people have overcome so much, because the black people who are alive today, while some have been discriminted against, weren't slaves; black people who are my age weren't alive when there were separate water fountains and schools, so they don't have to have special recognition. All of my life, I have seen black people as people just as important as white people. There is no difference rather than appearance.
I just think it's about time we push all of the history and recognition together. Anything about our country, black history, native american history, women's history, should all be included equally. In my history classes, we did learn about slavery and segregation, and about Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. We learned about all of that, and it wasn't specifically in february. We don't need to re-learn everything that involved black people each february. I think anyone who doesn't realize slavery and segregation was mean won't get anything out of black history month anyway, so we don't need it.
