brainwashed?

I don't tend to use the word brainwashed outside of political indoctrination and see the highly religious as more hypnotized due to their considerable emotional investment in their particular belief set. When it is forced on vulnerable small children or intellectually challenged, even atheists could land themselves in the brainwashing department. For example, in my own upbringing, I knew my parents and grandfather were atheists, but it wasn't something that came up very often.

I remember, with great amusement, after joining a friend at a local church when I was 8 or 9, coming home and proclaiming to my dad as he sat watching TV. "Dad, I asked Jesus into my heart tonight!" He just looked at me, and I'll never forget his reply. "That's great son, now go get your old man another beer." That really was like a splash of cold water. "Um, ok dad!"

i trusted what i was taught. trust means nothing to atheists? if it was bad, then why do they teach christianity???

Trust requires trustability, which is earned by being truthful. Does the person making a claim have access to knowledge about the subject in question?

Christianity is taught because some people value it. The same reason Islam is taught in other places. That doens't make it correct, just useful for social control.

Brainwashing is the pressurizing people into adopting an 'idea' by using systematic and sometimes abusive means.

It may be a bit harsh for some religions but I think it fits into any religion that starts telling young children that they are sinners, will burn in hell, etc. if they do not accept their god.
Then if you dare to question or even (shock horror) leave the religion you are ostracised or in some religions put to death.

I think brainwashed people have some trigger words that make them angry, sad or otherwise mentally agitated. They also would have problems with certain problems of logic and withdraw from people not part of their group. Christians that I know don't show these signs, but of course there are those guys on youtube who think frogs are gay by some satanic plot that makes zero sense.

i will give you an example. i believe jesus christ is god. atheists say to me that i only believe that, because i repeatedly was exposed to that idea of a divine christ, and that i don't think critically. and that's brainwashing. if i used reason, i wouldn't believe in a christ/god.
I don't know if that has to be counted as brainwashing. I mean. Don't the Christians call it Faith? I am familiar with brainwashing as.a word but i don' think it should be used too loosely thou i don't know if it .... well I suppose it can be used any way you like

Some cults definitely use brainwashing. Isolation from those not in the community, perpetual emphasis on certain doctrines. Use of social interactions to indoctrinate. And some christian groups are cults.

i've noticed, a lot of people, mostly atheists, believe that christians are brainwashed by the christian doctrine. do atheists find the chistian doctrine so absurd, that only by brainwashing someone can believe in it? what if atheistic ideas are brainwashing humans? suppose atheism becomes the dominant norm in a society. will we say then that atheism brainwashes the mind of people, and the skeptic ones will be the christians?

It should be noted that before the advent of the major religions most people would be regarded as atheists or believers in all sorts of spirits and/or gods. If we move on would it be so bad? As mentioned by one, a lot of religion is passed on because either it is taught to children from quite an early age and/or it is a dominant feature of the particular culture. Where does the definition of brainwashing, indoctrination, or teaching lie? If those getting it don't have a viable choice - as in children?

Your right, but Atheists will never commit themselves as saying, that Atheists can brainwash people into believing their agenda.

So why are Atheists wanting to take their agendas into schools. When Atheists yells no Christian agenda in schools, but yet Atheists wants their agenda in schools. To brainwash kids into their agenda.
Kinda sounds more like alot of hypocrites.

Atheists are not wanting their agenda in schools; atheists don't want 'atheist lessons'. BUT they also don't want Christian lessons or Jewish lessons or Muslim lessons. They want religion out of schools and left to families to decide.
I see you are a Christian, would you like it if they taught only Islam in your children's school. Well imagine if you are a non-believer, we don't want our kids being preached Christianity. It is the same thing, keep religion out of schools is the answer.

In retrospect, that was probably a pretty obscure reference for a religious forum.

That's the whole problem with Atheists they have no agenda, its what ever fits their narrative.

Of course atheism has an agenda. It's agenda is to talk theists out of their theism, but that's a really hard thing to do...

"It is easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they've been fooled."
Mark Twain

Atheists are doing all they can to convince the theist that they've been fooled, but as Twain points out its dam near impossible.
