The mental aspect of gender appears to have physical (brain) characteristics.From what I see many claim gender disorder is genetic. I believe it's mental simply because going by genetics, the easiest thing DNA can tell us about an individual is whether they are male or female.
The DNA will show male while the mind claims female and vise-versa.
If these traits show up in children, it does point to genetics.

Certainly, there are known genetic conditions (eg, XXY, XYY) which result in gender determination issues.
