Not sure if you meant to say what you did or not. but it appears you're saying that the 4,000 priests who have been accused of sex crimes amounts to 1% of the 40,000 total in the world. 1% would be 400 priests. What you've presented is 10%. Is that it, 10% of the priests in the world have been accused of sex crimes?Mornin' Dad!
Blimey, you're up early, which is maybe why you're so niggly about the whole of the Catholic Church throughout the whole world.
You may benefit from being reminded that although 4000 priests have been accused of sex crimes there are over 40,000 in the world and if 1% can destroy the characters of all then the leaders of your country in politics, commerce, industry, healthcare, travel et al don't stand a chance. Your prison and reform systems could (no doubt) produce a much higher % of wicked villains, I'm guessing?

Oh hell, yes. The UK has nothing to be proud of as far as church abuse goes.As long as I got payed enough I wouldn't mind getting wheeled out to defend indefensibles... I've got those same qualifications, and (hell!) we sure are messing up in the UK.
Point of order, Bill Donohue and his league are not the Catholic Church, nor do they speak for the Catholic Church.Basically the church is nothing more than a racket that dupes dopes with snake oil while molesting their kids. Sad that such a sorry establishment still has influence in the modern world.
Not by the Church.Oh, I know that...but he's always the idiot that gets wheeled out to defend the indefensible.
But they don't exactly vigorously disown him and put up their own spokesperson. Not by the Church.

Gotta say, I thought Catholics did away with personal demons and exorcisms a hundred years ago. From a Catholic perspective, this is daunting. It suggests that those who do such evil acts as sexual abuse create the fodder that attracts the devil to victimize the victim again. If this is true, the offenders are responsible for much more than molestation, and will have to answer for it.From a human perspective, it’s troubling because it means there are Catholics who seriously think victims of abuse will suffer once again at the hands of supernatural forces after they’ve already been traumatized by real ones.
Abuse victims need counseling and actual help, not a priest whose sole job it is to eradicate evil that doesn’t even exist. It’s a solution to a problem of their own creation."

You're using the "Muslims don't condemn terrorists vigorously enough therefore they actually support them" argument? But they don't exactly vigorously disown him and put up their own spokesperson.
Oh, you're a tricky one today, OB!Prominent British Psychiatrist Doctor R. A. (I could name him by law here, but RF might prefer that I do not) was convicted of several token counts of rape after delivering hypnotherapy to 100's of selected victims and then having intercourse with them. His prison sentence was 8 years but I reckon that today he would get a life sentence.
When our psychiatry services are perfect then exorcisms may possibly not be so necessary.
Not quite...if as in the case in question another paedophile issue; shouldn't the Catholic Churches' point of view be known? I believe it should, but all we hear is the moronic Donohue making excuses. You're using the "Muslims don't condemn terrorists vigorously enough therefore they actually support them" argument?
Then much like the people who use the afore mentioned argument to demonise Muslims, I respectfully submit you aren't listening. The Church has been very clear in it's condemnation of paedophilia. Not quite...if as in the case in question another paedophile issue; shouldn't the Catholic Churches' point of view be known? He just seems so old because of his advanced curmudgeonitude.Blimey! A three year old son? I thought that you were, like, 95 or something!
What, by protecting priests, moving priests, punishing them with prayer? Then much like the people who use the afore mentioned argument to demonise Muslims, I respectfully submit you aren't listening. The Church has been very clear in it's condemnation of paedophilia.

Why thankyou, Revolting. That sounds better than 'easy touch' anyway!Oh, you're a tricky one today, OB!
Oh we have had some naughty dentists, Recvolting, and I'm not talking about the ones that have phantom patients who needed lots and lots of work done for masses of NHS payments. Them dentists what anesthetize ;patients to grope 'em and worse....... lots of cases over the years.Bad apples exist in every profession, even physicists, poets, & dentists.
(That last one might be the British reason for eschewing dental care.)
Wrong thread, mate. I was answering somebody who brought that up, so please look back and then do the anti-whataboutism thingy with them. But that is classic whataboutism to deflect from not only clerical sexual assault of children, but also utterly useless rituals like exorcism, which occasionally are even fatal to the "patient".
A common everyday description of severe mental trauma is 'Demons' and where 'auto-suggestion' is powerful enough then positive benefits can no doubt be gained. And so where a believer receives exorcism from a trusted priest I have no doubt that it could very well be very very effective. There are real demons. They even have names, like Father O'Grady.
Let the police & courts exorcise them.
I know....... judging by his grumbling and niggling you'd think he was heading for his second century. He just seems so old because of his advanced curmudgeonitude.
(He even yells at me to get off his lawn.)
