Some parts are still drying up.
The flood event took about 1 year.
The aftermath took centuries.
In Electrical Engineering, after an impulse or step function, there will be a transient response. This will be a superposition of waves from each subsystem resonating at their natural frequency until all the energy has dissipated.

Actually, you specify in the title 6,000 years old.
