Christ According To The Mormons

So something you take seriously other have to as well?
And things you do not take seriously other are not to either?
Seems a bit self serving, don't you think?

I do not consider tools good or evil.
This would include cards, books (yes, even the Bible), guns, magic (though when God/Jesus pulls this one most people prefer the term 'miracle'), etc.

I do not find it acceptable to blame anything and everything else for the things that I am responsible for.
Certain things we must treat very seriously because our eternal welfare is at stake, which is something we all need to ponder more seriously.

We can joke to a certain degree but there's a point where a line needs to be drawn.

D&C 84: 54
And your minds in times past have been darkened because of unbelief, and because you have treated lightly the things you have received—

D&C 101: 8
In the day of their peace they esteemed lightly my counsel; but, in the day of their trouble, of necessity they feel after me.

I disagree.
That says that YOU should not take them lightly.
It says nothing about me.

Actually I'll agree with you here to a certain extent.

Because we as LDS know better than to take these things lightly, those outside our faith are not under the same condemnation, since they don't have all the facts.

So will agree with you here to a certain extent, to which you don't know all the facts concerning our faith.

The more we know the more we are held accountable before God.

The Lord has told us, in the Doctrine and Covenants that he would judge us (LDS members) first and more harshly than he will judge the world, because the world does, in general, not know any better.

We know the truth and must act accordingly. You on the other hand do not have all the facts (truth) so you are not held as accountable as we are as LDS members.

I can joke here to a certain extent, then I must draw the line at a certain point also, because I know better (the truth) and cannot joke (speak) against it.

This comment draws a certain line I must not cross over.

I'm talking about the 1978 cheesefest on ABC created by LDS member Glen Larson that had a planet Kobol and a fleet of spaceships looking for the land of promise, along with glowing angelic beings that say things like "As you are now, we once were, as we are now, you might become. "
Funny but at the same time reveals a lot about the cynic views Francine has about the LDS church so it's not that funny and I would be considered a cynical member of the LDS faith if I also thought it was funny.

!Fluffy!

Lacking Common Sense
That's nice to hear. I suspect we won't be hearing from you any more, then. :)

This post certainly says more about you than it does about me :). We should just have a big pie fight and get over it. And no, don't get your hopes up, I will still be around as usual, just with much less interest in your particular religion. This thread was trash from the OP on, I'm sure better topics will come up sometime.

Actually what pushed me to the edge with Mormonism yesterday has nothing to do with this board, but the comment made by a TBM elsewhere.

When I asked him if God's word is unchangeable according to LDS doctrine (because the BofM and D&C give opposite answers to that question) his response was:

His commandments are unalterable unless he alters or revokes them.

oooookay. There was just no convincing him otherwise. sigh. I'm sure there is an LDS press release out there that covers cognitive dissonance.

My sense of humor is so oblique often people don't get it. Your point was that we should not blame things (cards, books, etc) for the evil that men do. If you ever read the Lord of the Rings, the hobbits had to get rid of the One Ring because merely possessing it corrupted the mind of the owner. It was a metaphor for any created thing which we might turn into a god.

Hello, reoliquio. I hope you don't mind if I just answer your question here rathering than in a PM. We publish our own scriptures, including The Holy Bible, and we use the King James Version. Our other scriptures include The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Christ, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. I am aware that you use only the Bible, but I would imagine that as a Catholic, you do not adhere to the doctrine of Sola Scriptura. Is that right?

And why the insistence upon identifying with mainstream Christianity, when Joseph Smith said all of Christianity was in error?

You're right. The rest of Christianity should insist to identify with us.

No. I'm serious. Since we are the true church they should try to become as close to us as possible.

*silence*

Hmmmm

I wonder why people keep accusing us of wanting to be identififed as "mainstream" Christians anyway. I don't think we want that at all.

Who claimed that? :cover:

Citation if it is from any authority in the Church.

Thank you.

"I know this is the one true church" - Random LDS members, LDS apostles, multiple Prophets, my mom, my grandfather, my aunts and uncles, mambers of the Seventy, Bishops, Stake presidents.

quoted from any fast and testimony meeting, general conference, selected firesides, Ensign magazines, ect...

Becky, You claim to be a "liberal Mormon" on your blog, but the problem is.... there is no such thing. you either live the gospel or you don't. it really is just that black and white. so please. Stop asking for citiation when it is silly to do so.

We do not call others Trinitarians we call them Christians, just like us. I do acknowledge that we call ourselves from time to time "The one true Church," but that is not what you said in your post. Citations please.

The thing is we identify ourselves As the only chrisitan Faith. all other churches are Trinitarians

Please cite where anyone has said this.

Your statement has nothing to do with the thread.

Though, it seem that you enjoying stalking me and checking up on my blog.

oh my gosh becky, now ur just getting stupid on me. that was my own statement. and by "me" i meant, myself, the mouse in my pocket, and my three legged dog.

Then specify it instead of saying

The thing is we identify ourselves As the only chrisitan Faith. all other churches are Trinitarians

I did, i've personally heard it many times. i already cited them.

The citation I asked for was for the above quote, now that you have specified it's just your own opinion, I do not need a citation, unless you are still claiming that GA's have said that we are the "only Christian faith"

sure, i've laso checked out many other people's blog, so don't make yourself feel so special.

Well, when you mention my blog, it makes me feel all "warm and fuzzy" inside.
