However Messianic Jew is not offensive?
Messianic Jew is offensive to Rabbinic Jews; just read this article this morning explaining why.
It's Jews that believe Jesus is their Messiah. Who can say that is offensive?
Anyone who recognizes that Paul, Simon, and John contradict Yeshua on human sacrifice being acceptable...

Messianic Jews try to claim the best from both, and defile all the small print in the process.
That's your spin?
Actually it is what Yeshua stated would happen with the Wheat being his teachings in the Synoptic Gospels, and then the Tares being Christianity (John, Paul, and Simon) that came about after.
The early church at Antioch was largely Jewish itself.
James the Just head of the Church of Jerusalem, and an Ebionite; accepted Yeshua, yet stood against Paul's human sacrifice ideologies.

In my opinion. :innocent:

Any reason why 'Christian' is a dirty word to, well, Christians? I've not observed this in any other large faith group. Muslims call themselves Muslims, Jews call themselves Jews, Baha'is call themselves Baha'is.
Any reason why you would cast this as Christians viewing the term 'Christian' as a dirty word rather than simply seeing the term as one requiring disambiguation?

For a long while now I've noticed this trend of what are, honestly, Christians refusing to call themselves such. It's as though there's this aversion to the label 'Christian', when most of the people refusing to use the term are clearly Christians. I've seen,

'Bible believer'
'Jesus believer'
'Follower/Disciple of Jesus'
'Messianic'
'Completed Jew' [this one is also offensive]
'Biblist'

etc.

I find myself not exactly enjoying the term because of the sad way America is portraying it. I still use it though so others can understand but often explain a bit further.

First, we were called "Followers of the Way" .... :) I do like that.

Perhaps I was a bit quick with my judgement, and sometimes when I have asked people about the label the replies have been vague and not very meaningful to me. It often seems to be a case of 'Some Christians did bad things and I don't want to call myself what they called themselves', which is, imo, treating it like a dirty word.

I assume that many Christians find the term insufficient and I'm more than willing to defer to that judgment.

Christianity was considered a sect of Judaism when it began. It's just a fact.

Absolutely.

Chimps are not humans, but they have the same ancestors.
So? From the points of view of many Jews, Christians do not even worship the same god as them. Nothing can change the fact that it is an entirely separate religion, with separate scriptures, separate rituals, beliefs and dogmas. It is no more a 'sect' of Judaism than Baha'ism is a sect of Islam, or Zoroastrianism is a sect of Hinduism.

Christian is very broad, and includes wildly divergent beliefs. I thought that Messianism was the only type of Xianity, until I joined RF forums.

This all seems self explanatory.

As a mere outsider, I see Judaism and Christainity as religious narratives both derived from essentially Sumerian myth and belief. Certianly Judaism is the foundation of Christianity, which is presumably why the Old Testament is composed of mainly hebrew origin texts.

"Christianity" indeed couldn't exist without Judaism however - God never named His "religion" in fact people pretty much made religion. God wanted hearts the Jews tried following laws and missed the point. Their God came and they killed Him.

Jesus didn't come to make us "Christian" He came to make dead people live.

I find the Hebrew/Jewish history fascinating. The New Testament is proof of fulfillment of the prophecies in the Old. However the people of the Old (Jews) largely disbelieve that is so. However " imetmessiah.com " has Jewish testimonies of them coming to Christ. Quite intriguing.

That is blatantly wrong in many places:
  • Pharisaic concepts form the ideas of John, Paul, and Simon (Christianity).
  • All the Gospel writers if Jewish, would have had Sadducee, Levite, and Pharisee influences, with possible Essene knowledge.
  • Yeshua and John the Baptist, knew the Essene ideologies.
  • John's Gospel takes ideas of Midrash mixed with Gnosticism.
  • Islam in its early years has Ebionite writings; who are a continuation from the Essenes and Yeshua's teachings.
  • etc.

let me weigh in on this one.......

the Carpenter is my Inspiration

but the term Christian is as such.....
of.....pertaining to.....having the characteristics of......
Christ (the Anointed One)

I don't walk on water
I don't change water into wine
when my loved ones (and I) die in flesh
we will stay that way

I might conjure an occasional parable
and hopefully God and heaven won't mind my efforts

if they do.....I am in deeeeeeep trouble

They parallel, and use the same texts, Xianity using more texts. They were always different, example, Hell belief, which was always different. Xianity is Judaic, not from Judaism, as Judaism, now, means specific things.
