'Christian'

I find the Hebrew/Jewish history fascinating. The New Testament is proof of fulfillment of the prophecies in the Old. However the people of the Old (Jews) largely disbelieve that is so. However " imetmessiah.com " has Jewish testimonies of them coming to Christ. Quite intriguing.

I am very interested in Sumerian Babylonian and Akkadian myth and their religious narratives, thusly the Old Testament, which contains quite a lot of material and history that relates strongly to ancient Sumer and its descendant civilizations, that so influenced early semitic peoples in the fertile crescent.

It happened..? It's okay to talk about.

It didn't happen, because he wasn't a god, in my view.

And ok thank you for sharing your disbelief of my statement? What is your view?

That the Christian Scriptures are a very bad attempt to fit a man into messianic prophecies, many of which prophecies aren't even messianic and wrongly applied, after he died.

Are the folks who seem to avoid "Christian" mostly American? If so, then it might have something to do with the Religious Right has defamed the name over the past 40 years.

Probably so. I am okay with whatever. Following Him means you get called a lot more nasty things than Christian And that's fine, too.

I would say yes, but this forum has a serious American tilt anyway, so maybe it's not a very good way to judge.

Any reason why 'Christian' is a dirty word to, well, Christians? I've not observed this in any other large faith group. Muslims call themselves Muslims, Jews call themselves Jews, Baha'is call themselves Baha'is.
I think it’s an extension of the whole “it’s not a religion; it’s a relationship with Jesus” thing that’s popular with some Protestants.

I’ve seen Christians who have argued that “religion” implies ritual, rules of behaviour, and something “dead,” which they say doesn’t describe their faith. I think this approach is a load of bunk, myself, but I recognize that some (many?) Christians take it.

“Christianity” is the name of the religion, so Christians who want to see themselves as “not religious” don’t refer to themselves in terms that suggest religion.

That’s my take on it, anyway.

Right. No one actually believes He is God until He changes them. So that's okay. I was raised to believe nothing and thought all religions were false.

I see the scriptures now and understand them. I see connections that aren't fabricated and a history verified. The timeline is a detail that does not really affect the quality of the texts, if you're referring to the fact they were written after He died. Of course they were. They weren't really intended to be in a book together, they were letters to those from our past, written by people who knew Him. And one Dr. Luke who did an extremely good job investigating the story :)

I'm mostly referring to how he could not possibly be the messiah as he failed to fulfil any of the prophecies, and even if he were, the messiah is not described as being the same as G-d. G-d is One.

Well I am not an American. Not as yet.

Quite possibly.

Groups (and individuals) like the Red Letter christians it would seem have tired of the evangelical right and oppose their apparent dismissal of the central teachings of christ to embrace instead rigid doctrine relating to abortion sexuality and sexual identity, which is all that seems to concern them, perceptually. Imo anyway.

So you're saying the Jewish people should still be looking for a king to come rule them?

And He said the Father and I are One - the nature of God is Triune - One but He is beyond our understanding.

Are you Jewish?

Welcome to the Forum! I used to keep a book of Sumerian and Egyptian literature on my bedside table. Loved the stuff! But that was years ago.

Lol...I don't like when people ask me if I am a Christian...because they are too lazy to google Pelagianism.
