Christians in America

FlyingTeaPot

Irrational Rationalist. Educated Fool.
To preach Christianity in the public classroom, where parents choose to not have religion as apart of the curriculum, is forcing beliefs onto others who disagree or are not interested. I'm sure you wouldn't be too happy if you had a Muslim boss preaching to you about Mohammed in your workplace every day, harassing you that what you've been taught all your life is wrong and that his religion is right...all for the sake of your soul. His religion has no place being forced into your daily life and neither does yours.

Woha, Sunsplash, easy on the reasonableness! :D Can't you see facts and reason have no place in our friend's discussion?

I smell something....
he does love you but you are on Satan's side....come back to God's side....you fight a losing battle
And the Goddess loves you too but there is no such thing as Satan. My battle has already been won.

See what I did there. We could do this all day long and it wont get us anywhere close to discussing your OP. Remember the OP? You were discussing how you felt like your inability to jam your religion down others throats against their will was the same thing as the slaughtering of Jews in Nazi Germany.

We are like Jews in Nazi Germany.
Don't EVEN go there!!! So are your people herded like cattle? Fed only potato skin soup? Branded like animals with tattoo identification number? Are Christians being taken to have medical experiments conducted on them? Are the Christians in America being exterminated? I THINK NOT!
The truth is, you can pray in school. As long as it's not during instructional time and your not being disruptive (which would be against Christ's teachings if you did draw attention to yourself while praying) the courts have consistently held up the individual student's right to pray. Have you ever looked into American politics? The GOP especially is over run with a pro-Christian agenda. Gays can't get married or serve in the Military because of your Christian "morality" that is being so harshly oppressed. And here is something that will make your day. The Constitution does not have "So help me God." as a part of the President's inauguration oath. They just add that part in because so many people expect to hear it.
and you dont call that persecution?
Nope. Saying Christians are treated like the Jews while Hitler was in control is very insulting to Jews, especially those that went through the Holocaust, and those with family that did. If anything, you should be apologizing to the Jewish members of this board and seriously consider your words before you speak them.

Actually I think this thread has brought up something that kind of "grinds my gears". The Holocaust was NOT a Jewish tragedy. It was a tragedy for all people who suffered at the hands of Nazi Germany. A large portion of the victims may have been Jewish, but we shouldn't marginalize other people. I think it's a mistake that us Jews and other groups make when discussing the Holocaust.

Very true. However, the OP only addresses being a Jew in Nazi Germany.

By the way, there were about 11 or 12 million people murdered by the Nazis as undesirables, 6 million of whom were Jews. Of course, that doesn't count the number of civilians murdered by the Nazis as "collateral damage" during military campaigns. But whatever the case, however great or small the numbers, even one life lost would have been a tragedy.

youre standing in the way of God's precious saints and thats not good
You're right. I've signed petitions to have the so-called Creationism "museum" closed down because it is misleading visitors and portrays scenes that could not have happened (such as man and dinosaur co-existing. I doubt we would have had a very high chance of survival if we did). I've wrote my Senators over Texas wanting to change their text books to meet their own standards. And to those that have deserved it, I have been very harsh in explaining the folly of their ways.

Because that teacher cares about his/her students and doesnt want them to burn in hell
I would be the one raising some hell if my child was preached to at school. Children aren't sent to school to learn religion. They are sent to learn language arts, (real) science, history, math, art, and skills that allow them to further their education and get a job. If my child ever came home and said the teacher was preaching, the super attendant and maybe even the school board would hear about it.

Didnt you read what I said? You were defeated at the cross
You wish. Actually, when I left Christianity was one of the most significant events in my life. Since I have left, I have learned alot about the world, about history and science, my knowledge and wisdom has increased several fold, my thoughts are more clear, and all my goals are now within my own grasp and I can obtain them with my own power, rather than praying for God to give them to me or help along the way. My own victory came when I decided that I didn't need to carry my own cross in life. I dropped the cross, and the chains and shackles that kept my bound to it were broken. At that moment I became liberated. It wasn't easy because the Christian life was literally all I knew, but I quickly found my own way in life and it has been working out alot better for me.
he does love you but you are on Satan's side....come back to God's side....you fight a losing battle
I am on Satan's side, and wouldn't have it any other way. I have found that Lucifer, being the Bringer of Light, the Morning Star, and strong enough to rebel over something he knew was wrong makes him a very positive role model. He hasn't killed anyone, doesn't expect people to bow down and worship him, and gave his own position at the left hand of God so that we could be free from his rule.

I will apologize if the Jews interpret what I said to be an insult to them but I wont apologize for the intended meaning. The persecution of Jews in Hitler's Germany started very gradually. A woman in Houston, Texas was ordered by local police to stop handing out gospel tracts to children who knocked on her door at halloween. She was told she would be arrested if she continued. In Madison, Wisconsin, the Freedom from Religion Foundation distributes anti-Christian pamphlets to public school children entitled, "We Can Be Good Without God." The entertainment industry and syndicated media increasingly vilify Christians as sewer rats, vultures, and simple-minded social ingrates. Christian fundamentalists are labeled as hate groups and even terrorists. Hate crime legislation is aimed at silencing us on preaching against homosexuality because the homosexuals dont like the gospel. The funny thing is we are the biggest victim of hate crimes and they say nothing. You dont want teachers teaching kids about God but you have no problem with them teaching evolution and you expect me to be ok with it as well. Why the double standard? Yes, I meant what I said. Eventually, you will see Christians put in concentration camps and suffer all those horrors you mentioned that the Jews suffered under Hitler.

Christian
Christians in America are mercilessly persecuted. We are like Jews in Nazi Germany. They wont let us pray in the schools, they call us all kinds of names like bible thumper and holy roller and now they want to make gospel preaching a hate crime but our God will get us the victory. We have endured much for the gospel but take heart. Jesus said the world hated him and they will hate us too. The hour of his second coming is at hand and soon we will be with him in heaven. Our God is an awesome God. Amen.
I dont see it. people of all kinds call names, its got little to do with christian. And compairing us to the jews that were murdered, your so far away I cant even go there. And anybody can pray at school any time they want.

In what way is that anti-christian? Of course we can be good without god. In fact, many of us are.

You seem to have a very skewed meaning of the word 'persecution'. What is happening, in fact, is that an increasing number of people are living their lives free from religion and supernatural / superstitious belief, and that's what you can't seem to handle. People now are much more willing to challenge believers and demand answers and explanations, but you see that as persecution.

But if you don't feel persecuted how can you feel Christian? People are doing their part to make you feel Christian, you should be thanking your fellow Americans.

Evolution is a science theory, which is why it needs to be taught over creationism, which is not a scientific theory. There is no way to actually test it, and all evidence shows the earth to be much older than 10,000 years. I have not seen any big Hollywood movie bash Christians. Actually the Book of Eli is about a man who is trying to save the worlds last Bible. And on TV some people do bash it, but those that do are very much the minority. The reason why people should get over the gay marriage issue is because it is denying a civil liberty to two consenting adults. America is was founded as a secular nation, thus Christian morals have no business in our laws. And to think you are the victim of a hate crime. Try being part of a minority group that is looked down on. Then you might be the victim of a real hate crime. How many Christians have been beaten, tortured, denied jobs, denied housing, live in fear for their lives and have been killed in America solely because they are Christian? People not wanting religion in the public sector are not out to get Christianity. We simply don't want religion, any religion, to be a public issue because it was intended from day 1 for America to be that way.

Done here.
A woman in Houston, Texas was ordered by local police to stop handing out gospel tracts to children who knocked on her door at halloween. She was told she would be arrested if she continued. I'd like to see your sources for both of those stories.

Hate crime legislation is aimed at silencing us on preaching against homosexuality because the homosexuals dont like the gospel.
Hate crimes legislation only has to do with crimes. Hate speech is not a crime in the United States. No hate crimes legislation in the U.S. has the slightest impact on your right to say whatever stupid, hateful things you want to say.

The funny thing is we are the biggest victim of hate crimes and they say nothing.
No, you're not. By far the largest number of hate crimes committed in the U.S. are race-based, not religion-based. Hate crimes committed against religious groups are less than a fifth of hate crimes, and two-thirds of them are committed against Jews. Hate crimes against Christians are among the least common hate crimes, and when they do occur they're often committed by other Christians who don't approve of some particular form of Christianity.

You dont want teachers teaching kids about God but you have no problem with them teaching evolution and you expect me to be ok with it as well. Why the double standard?
That's because evolution is science. What would be a double standard would be if teachers could teach kids about the Bible but not about the Qur'an or the Bhagavad Gita.

Eventually, you will see Christians put in concentration camps and suffer all those horrors you mentioned that the Jews suffered under Hitler.
Promises, promises. If you really believe the 24% of us who are not Christians are going to put the 76% of you who are into concentration camps, you really should seek psychiatric help as soon as possible.

How sad.

Well, I'd like to see their source. But I suppose their readers just believe whatever they say.
