That pesky filioque clause...
Ok. When does a puppy become a dog. Here is the Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.
Question: Do you either wholly accept it, partially accept it, or reject it all together?
And how important is it to you?
It's important to me as it's a snappy and concise summary of my Christian faith and I like that I share it with a great many other people
I think I entirely accept it
But I used to have a very slight issue where it says Jesus Christ is "the only Son of God"
Because I believe that God directly created other deities too, apart from Jesus Christ
But I now realise that by "son" it means "human male" - I believe that only one human male was ever "begotten" by God and that that person was Jesus Christ. But I believe God created other divine offspring such as The Holy Spirit
For instance, the Holy Spirit was created by God The Father, but is not a "son" of God as it is not a "human male" so cannot be called a "son" of anyone! And I don't believe the other deities who are not parts of the Godhead are human either although they may be humanoid.
So at the end of the day this is not an issue and I accept The Nicene Creed in its entirety
At the point at mass whereas this is said, I don't participate, and our priest knows that I'm just the kind of person who questions everything, including the Creeds, and he accept this.
Begotten, not made means He was delivered by a woman. He was not created as Adam was.2. begotten, not made; Rev 3:14. Jesus himself states he is the first creation.
With those 2 things comes the main problems
1. Is the Bible true
2. If true then 1 & 2 above are not.
3. Is Jesus a liar. Angain that is something I can not fathom. (Rom 3:4)
4. If the Bible is not true then absolute truth does not exist. Again unfathomable
Briefly, because my main orientation and also my profession was in science, and with that we are natural skeptics.May I know why you do not?
Thank you, that is very insightful and interesting.Briefly, because my main orientation and also my profession was in science, and with that we are natural skeptics.
May I ask for more details about what part you do not believe? Do you believe there is one God? Do you believe he made all things? I am honestly curious about what parts of the creed you believe and do not believe. At the point at mass whereas this is said, I don't participate, and our priest knows that I'm just the kind of person who questions everything, including the Creeds, and he accept this.
Likely is, but then what do I know?May I ask for more details about what part you do not believe? Do you believe there is one God?
Probably yes, but in a roundabout way [see what I have written for "religion" at the top/right of my posts].Do you believe he made all things?
I'm a scientist, now retired, thus I always question things and avoid what's called "blind faith". So, in answer to your question, I believe those who formulated the Creed tried to do their best based on what the saw or heard, so I can accept it at that level.I am honestly curious about what parts of the creed you believe and do not believe.
I don't find any contradictions with scriptures to make me not believe certain parts of it.Question: Do you either wholly accept it, partially accept it, or reject it all together?

I believe it in its entirety... but I think the Catholics believe that this means only Catholics. I see it as just the universal church.
I would like to hear what a Catholic thinks what the Catholic and Apostolic Church means.
.
It means the church which doesn't contradict catholic teachings where the "church" is not a physical building but rather a flock of Jesus:I would like to hear what a Catholic thinks what the Catholic and Apostolic Church means.
I'm not exactly sure what your question is.We do.
What do you do with the "one"? One church.
Right, only a bishop may ordain another bishop. It's called "apostolic succession" that involves the laying on of hands as the new bishops are ordained. See: Apostolic succession - Wikipedia
Metis, I am sure you are an intelligent person. I may sometimes question what a person believes but I never question their right to believe what they want. I am sure many here would use some colorful words to describe what I believe. I believe God is made up of two persons, not three. There is a father and a son. Together they are God just like a human father and son together are a family. The Bible says God is a spirit and God is holy. So this "family" called God is a holy spirit. There is no third person. Thanks for asking. Now I will get some of those colorful words when people read this.Likely is, but then what do I know?
Probably yes, but in a roundabout way [see what I have written for "religion" at the top/right of my posts].

BTW, thanks for asking instead of jumping to conclusions like some here do. And, how do you look at the creeds?
