Christians..... you are not the saviors of the world.

So what did you think he went there to do? He was attempting to convert them to Christianity. That would destroy their way of life. Their culture. Can you not see the problem here?

I do not understand at all how Christianity would destroy their way of life. Change it..? Maybe. But only if they adopted it.

Religions inform culture. Christianity especially has a moral code that is clearly very different to theirs. For example they would have to start wearing modest clothes, set up a Church in order to sanctify marriages &c., give up their solitary way of life most probably, if they practice any kind of witchcraft or folk magic they would have to quit that, &c. &c. You're obviously not aware of how big an impact an entirely new religion has on a people. Oftentimes in such cultures, religion and way of life/culture aren't separate things, so dumping a new religion on them would annihilate their culture.

That you and Rival seem to be satisfied with the Sentinelese people killing anyone who approaches their island. Yet, you don't support, for instance, me shooting anyone who steps foot on my front lawn.
I believe in the rights of indigenous peoples to defend themselves from colonialism, imperialism and genocide (cultural or physical). Someone stepping foot on your lawn is a bit of a different thing and it's quite odd to compare the two. That would have to be decided by the laws where you live.

I saw a brief story on the news this morning that the Indian Government sent a team in to try and recover his body. Only caught the end of the story so don't know the details.

Ugh, dammit. I was hoping they wouldn't do that and would just leave it alone. This is getting worse and worse. Seriously, **** that guy. I curse him.

A single, unarmed "invader"...?
White-skinned men and outsiders speaking strange languages have been known to possess dark magical powers to curse many people with sickness. They did it without any rituals and any implements; it was as if their very presence was a blight on the people, and only with the removal of these people from the island was health restored.

Try looking at it from their perspective. We understand germ theory and for the most part we possess a common nonverbal language, and we understand what a book is. They, however, don't, and they probably believe in magic and other spiritual forces that we just don't.

I cant add much to this conversation except to say that these ancient people are a living history of the human species. Culturally and biologically they are nearly untouched by the rest of the world. They can teach us more about our past than can long dead bones. We know from history that if even one outsider comes in and makes close contact with them it could wipe out our our only known chance to understand ourselves from their living examples. I hear the christains exclaim "but they must be warned about hell" however, they have no proof of this hell. We do have proof of the damage our intrusion can cause.
Then again evidence is never considered by the fundamentalist.(please note, I did not lump all christians into this catagory)
It would only really explain them. They aren't time travelers, so they're not literally from 60k years ago. They'd still be different from the beginning of the line. Also, how they act in isolation can't be generalized to everyone else.

Here are the reasons why, told from the nation's peoples themselves. It's actually heartbreaking to watch this.

For those who do decide to view it, many will understand if not already, as to why the thread is titled...

"Christians.... you are not the saviors of the world" [\B].

Murder? Seriously? The word "murder" has a very strict legal definition. And nobody was murdered here-- a fellow was killed attempting to invade a sovereign nation, in spite of numerous warnings that he was unwelcome. But that's not murder. No-- I call it Justice.
Absolute nonsense.

Are the semantics really that important Bob? Technically, the term is correct when used 'informally'.

Perhaps you prefer assasination better? Human extermination?

Relax Frank. At least you can take comfort in knowing he's dead. But no... You want to go a step further and curse the dead.

LOL, and to think I was foolish enough to think you would have accepted my apology, when even death does not diminish the scope of your apparent hatred.

On a side note, what exactly does it mean that you "curse him"? Do you dabble in the Voodoo?

I was a little unimpressed after the Hawaiian lady blamed Capitalism on Christianity.

It kind of gave me the impression that some of the other stuff said might also be baloney.

You are the one who demonstrated that your "apology" was fake. That's on you.

I curse him because his folly is exposing the Islanders to harm - first from harm himself and now in the form of Indian authorities trying to recover the moron's body.

Yes, I curse his memory and hope he suffers in whatever afterlife he is in. Maybe he'll learn his lesson and return a wiser person in a next life. No, I don't practice Voodoo, not that there's anything wrong with West African religion. I also think that the notion that we must always think happy thoughts towards the dead is totally stupid and hypocritical.

Your lack of forgiveness is duly noted.
