Christmas Deities?

I found this picture on the internet...

OKAY, I'm not sure if this is horribly cheesy, breaking the injunctions of proper respectful Deity worship, or just cute, LOL.

Cute. :D
Only thing that came to my mind was Kṛṣṇa Claus. But that's too cheesy even for me. :D

On the face of it some staunch Hindus might take umbrage with it, but let's consider:

The secular Christmas trappings represent Saint Nicholas, a very benevolent and generous (if not short-tempered) man who aided the poor. Saint Nicholas represents the generosity of God

Sri Krishna has a singular sense of humor, and loves and helps all the poor in spirit, while His shakti Mahalakshmi grants material and spiritual wealth also.

In the end, I think it's pretty imaginative.

Don't give the "Krishna=Christ & both were crucified" adherents any more ammunition... Kṛṣṇasmas?

How is this not "proper respectful Deity worship"?

Easy. I got this on a staunch Gaudiya Vaishnava site being a McScrooge screaming that things like this is an innovation. XD

The picture reminded me of one gay ex-Gaudiya Vaishnava who had Gaura-Nitai Deities (Deity forms of Lord Chaitanya and Nityananda Prabhu, representations of Krishna-Balarama respectively) -- he would dress them with fruit hats, sarongs, winter outfits, and even with a discoball hanging above Them both!

I remember looking at pictures of his Deities with banana-chiquitita type clothingand fruit hats, and grinned and facepalmed altogether. :D

I have to say, every year the ISKCON devotees here go for their annual Gita Christmas marathon to compete against other temples all over the world to distribute Bhagavad Gita As It Is wrapped as presents for street buyers. They may also say "Merry Krishmas" and there is generally a Christmas programme and feast at the temple on Christmas Day.

A few years ago, we even had Santa Claus in his red suit, hat, bag of toys and tilaka for the little children. :) I wish he would come back though! :(

Ironically enough, I have an ugly red and green sari I could wear for the holiday season. :p

I'm going to print this and frame it. My partner ( you know, the Roman Catholic Buddhist) likes it. But he said the other one of the Vishvarupa is "effed up".

Here's another beautiful one!

It's so laughable I'd love to listen to how they came to that conclusion. :D

I also love it when apparently Krishna was also crucified... and I certainly do not like that picture of Jesus and Krishna holding hands... hippy munchies much?

I have an A4 printout of the original picture. Makes me want this one for the festive season. :D
Oh GOD... I especially love how Arjuna's chariot has been converted into one with gifts. Krishna fulfills all our wishes (kalpa-vrksha); I guess He also gives gifts on Arjuna's chariot in the form of Sant Klausa. :areyoucra

Sant Klausa could be our new Hindu Christmas tradition... "He knows when you are sleeping; He knows when you're awake... He knows when you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness' sake!"

Every universe is shaped like a Christmas bauble...
