I'm not looking to have circumcision banned, but I do think it's strange that you would defend your right to choose your son's religion for him on the basis of "freedom".

I would say: no. Especially if you believe that we were commanded by God to do so.

Wouldn't it mean more if a person chose it? Not having a choice in obeying a command supposedly from god is no virtue.

Part of the command is to circumcise our sons at eight days old. That IS a choice.

And there is ALWAYS merit in obeying a command from God.

Flankerl, do you have children? Boys? I can assure you that it was completely unimportant to me till I had to make a decision about whether or not I would have my sons circumcised.

But on the other hand, it's made absolutely no difference in who I choose to have an intimate relationship with.

No i dont have children but if i had boys they would be circumcised.

Not just the USA mine fraulein...but they do habitually circumcise their children...still the barbaric practice has slowed there...thankfully.

The term "Fräulein" isnt really used anymore since its outdated and seen as degrading. And FYI iam not german.

It should be important to everyone if it's a question of rather or not circumcision counts as mutilation and abuse.

Yeah if someone really has nothing else on his/her mind it could be up to question. But seriously there are far more important things in the world.


Boys dont get depressive because they got circumcised. Actually they dont remember it at all.
My boyfriend was circumcised when he was around 8 years old, an age where you already remember stuff i think. And he doesnt remember his penis being different from before. For him it has always been this way.

Perhaps it would make too much sense to ask the people who are circumcised if they think they have been mutilated and abused

Well they act like it's such a virtue and obedience to God to circumcise their 8 day old who has no choice in the matter. It doesn't hurt them a bit to have their child circumcised. There's almost no effort involved. Some virtue...

I wouldnt mutilate my children to satisfy some religious edict.

I have four children.

I would respect their choices...I even let my mother take them to a CHRISTIAN church for sunday services...because they like going...despite the fact that I worship Satan and despise orthodox christianity.
