Colander Hats on IDs: Legitimate Religious Statement or Atheists Acting Childish?

Here you have your answer, Revoltingest.

Willamena, how does the lack of a photo ID make identity theft more difficult? Sure, it is fairly easy to forge an ID. But it may be checked against official databases, which is something. Certainly better than having to trust one's word of mouth.

Hat and head covering rules should apply to all or simply be let go, in my opinion.

I see it as a stunt if a person will not take the thing off for a short bit of time and then go back to life as usual when business is done.

Still low on the give a crap scale :D

How about making all atheists wear a colander? It would be useful to have at least some of the smug and arrogant identified. :p

I don't know. I wouldn't suggest it does make it more difficult.

I still think wearing a colander looks ridiculous, but if they think it's a good protest (I think it might be, look at all the attention they're getting ;) ) then more power to them.

In my opinion, if headwear is allowed in an ID photograph it should be allowed for everybody. If it's disallowed then nobody should be claiming an exception. As such I think protesting through a parody religion is a valid means of bringing inconsistencies and favouritism to light.
What I'm not as keen on is the colander and the "magic man in the sky" comment. What this essentially translates into is, "well if they can wear ridiculous hats for stupid reasons then we should be allowed to as well." To me that undermines the protest by revealing a petty and ignorant view of religions while simultaneously giving anti-atheists yet more ammunition.
If it's meant to be funny then to me it's a juvenile joke at best.

Yeah, it's funny. The problem is he is wearing the headgear on questionable principle. He's wearing it because religious people are getting something that he isn't.

There has been a growing trend among certain atheists to fight for the right to wear colanders on their heads when having their photo taken for government issued IDs. It is meant to be a political statement against the allowance of religious head gear. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Is it a legitimate statement? Should religious believers not be allowed to have any religious headgear, what so ever, in government issued IDs? Or is it a childish act that does more to harm the already very poor view that people have of atheists?

I find all these types of silly reactions to religion to be rather childish and unproductive. I expect better of rationalists and atheists, which is usually the case. Of course, I understand there will always be a small contigent of atheists who are anti-religon, either because of age/immaturity, or some type of deep damage caused by religion growing up - and that these people will always act out in a reactionary way.

The only thing more unproductive is to get upset at colander wearing....unless one is a milliner.

My mother used to make us wear a colander on our head whenever we acted up, sometimes for hours. Now I can't look at someone with a colander on their head without breaking down into a tearful funk. Damn you, atheist dorks!
