Communicating with God?

Ah, that things are so incredibly simple, eh?

Yes;

by and large, often the simplest things are also the most complex.
the human genome
fractals
the commandments of christ
acorns
the structure of matter
music

the list goes on.
Blake spoke of seeing the world in a grain of sand...not some complex system.

This is why Rumi speaks of wondering around searching for a necklace you are already wearing.

Everytime you invoke heka over your food you have shared in a meal with god. Everytime you light a candle and reflect on it's light, you have reflected on god. Everytime you do a good deed for another person, you have done it to god.

God is a being outside of time, because he created time, he watches and judges our actions everyday. he waits for our prayers and if they are sincere (not asking for some random chick to fall for us) then he will answer or provide assistance as it is needed.
You posit god as "outside of time" and in the very next sentence describe everything god "does" as time-dependent ("watches... every day," "waits," determines sincerity (after the request), "then he will answer"... All the communication we are capable of doing is time-linear. Sentences, thoughts, ideas, have beginnings, durations, and endings. The act of communication itself is time-bound. If we are time-bound, then any being that wishes to communicate with us must also be time-bound (at least temporarily) to complete the send/receive process.

This makes yourself out to be a god, how is that possible you are so plain and don't have any good teaching or lessons for us to learn. The problem is we were talking about God not you yourself god, there is a difference and you need to find it or you will end up confusing yourself. please contact me for some help!

This should be a laugh :beach:

In regards to the OP, yes I believe it is possible to communicate with deities. It's not important to everbody obviously, but for me it certainly helps.

She doesn't need your "help."

But He can choose to achieve things through men. That's why the prophets are called. And I actually know serveral ways of how they communicate, future is usually involved for un-ambiguousness.

Why would he only be "un-ambiguos" to prophets? In the scriptures it says that God "is no respecter of persons." In my opinion, that means that no one is better than anyone else when it comes to God. What I mean is, God should be just as willing to give you and me a perfectly clear message as he would to Elijah or Moses.

He didn't choose anything "better", He chose the "proper". Paul is almost a standard (Paul is a prophet with a title apostle though), and he never said that he's anything 'better'.

I tried daily for many years but was always left feeling empty, like I was doing it "wrong." I never felt the presence that others claim to feel and ultimately gave up, not understanding why I felt no relationship with God and others did so easily.

It seems to me that you adapted a wrong approach. God speaks only to those who have faith in Him. There are basically 3 ways one can communicate with God,

1) To receive guidance from the Holy Spirit, Christian thus can listen to the whispering of the Holy Spirit and thus the strong feeling of being with God.

2) God speaks in a form of voice. But it seems to me that God may consider that modern languages are too wicked to be spoken. He doesn't seem to use this way of communication in modern times after Hebrew and ancient Greek being no longer common in our world.

3) in a supernatural way. This can be fascinating and can branch out in various ways, but what seems to be common is that God makes good use of the future in such a kind of communication. It is not that comprehensive when I say so, because we lack experience. He communicates with the prophets this way.

If you are willing to pay attention, you might have noticed that both prophecies and miracles share the same characteristic of independence from a human brain, that is, you can't be delutional about a prophecy or a miracle.

If, as many of the above posters have said, communicating with god is possible and is a deeply personal experience, why then the need for organised religion with all the various trappings, hierarchies of priests and ministers, rules and regulations?
If it all boils down to a one-to-one communication, then does all the other stuff become unnecessary? Or does your specific religion help you communicate?

It's still necessary to me.
My religion helps me in that it provides me a place and the company of like minded people in whose company I can worship grow and learn.
It is also a social framework and outlet.

It is unlikely that any request for information will be forthcoming.

eh:D. You can only expect so much from mere mortals. ;)

Its only a Label
Friend xkatz,

Communicating with God?
Is it possible to communicate with God? If so, how is it possible? Have people ever communicated with God? Is it important?

Existence is *god* and everything in existence are all extension of that *god* and please remember that the word *god* is used only as a label for that understanding.
Now, when am posting this addressing to *xyz/ xkatz/ etc* are all extensions of that *god* so in effect am always communicating with *god* at all times.

Why is the doubt??

If, as many of the above posters have said, communicating with god is possible and is a deeply personal experience,
Well, I expect this isn't directed at me, since that's not quite what I said. But it's close enough that I'll answer anyway. :D

why then the need for organised religion with all the various trappings, hierarchies of priests and ministers, rules and regulations?
They're unrelated.

If it all boils down to a one-to-one communication, then does all the other stuff become unnecessary?
For communion, it was never necessary. Organized religion sees to other needs.

Or does your specific religion help you communicate?
No. It does, however, support me in my goals by providing a warm, loving community that delights in diversity.
