You could also total up both columns, divide it by the number of entries, and find the average for the group.

I think you will all find this interesting. Breaks down the political views of each state in many ways

Very nice info. If true, this graph dispels the notion that a southern Democrat is essentially on par with a "northern" Republican.

Great....just great....no state is anywhere near me (8.75 econ & -6.10 social).

Not surprisingly, Nevada is in that lower-right quadrant, although much closer to the middle than you. Iowa seems to be a bit less distant to you.
