As a political science major, I want to use my authority (caution: really bad appeal to authority) to say that the political compass is pretty much worthless. I highly doubt that 95 percent of the people on this forum want state-ownership of major industries, desire the abolition of private property or workerscouncils to replace private ownership. In fact, I know it is wrong, because GeneCoasta was only listed as moderately left-wing on economic issues, when he is a left-libertarian.

I would agree with you, though, relatively few people were actually left past the half way mark. Even then, that doesn't necessarily imply state-ownership of all major industries, desire to abolition of private property or union-ownership of business. Now, if everyone was pushing back all the way to -10 on the economical scale, you might have a point. Either way, the left/right paradigm is only measured by economic opinion.

Though we have discussed that it is slanted left, some of the questions are loaded to the point where you have to feel pretty firm to 'agree' with them; but people did.

I'm still going to give it a couple days before I make the big graph for anyone else who wants to take the test.

LoL how many times did you take it to engineer THAT result? :p Lets see the graph!
I don't know how many times I've been through this exercise, but KatNotKathy is always farther left and farther down than I am, and is almost always the only one who is.

Even if people think some cultures are superior to others, are they really going to refer to them as ''savages'' ?
I'm more likely to say barbarians, but savages will do.

The way some of the questions were worded, I don't see how anyone could fall to the right on the economic scale. Let's look at some of these questions:

If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations. -- How can anyone possibly disagree with this?

Because corporations cannot be trusted to voluntarily protect the environment, they require regulation. -- Again, who could disagree?

The only social responsibility of a company should be to deliver a profit to its shareholders. -- How could anyone think this?
I'm not sure, but nevertheless I know lots of people who do.

You're right. That's a really bad appeal to authority. Also, you seem to be saying that it places most of us too far left, but places Gene too far right.

The test places Gene in the left-libertarian quadrant, considerably farther left and farther down than what's generally considered "centrist" in the U.S., and that's exactly where he belongs.

And I guess the people who think the results are artificially left and libertarian think that Kat, T-Dawg and I should be completely off the charts. :)

Look me in the eye (figuratively speaking) and tell me you don't think Saudi Arabia or Somalia are backwards countries.

Firstly Backwards wasn't the term in question it was ''savage'' , secondly, while to me backwards is an old fashioned word with no relevance whatsoever, but I do believe Saudi Arabia is beset by terrible corruption and that the power vacuum in Somalia has and will continue to be a cause of violent upheaval, I wouldn't call the people of either country ''savages''

Like I said, it's not my choice of words, but it's pretty much what I think. Between you and me, it's what I think of Americans sometimes, too.

I'm probably more centrist on the chart because some of the questions sort of create a stipulation that you pick either exploitation or large government regulation.
