Please quote him saying that.

BTW, regarding politics, I am as neutral as one can get since I don't follow politics.
I have not even watched any news since my husband passed on 2.5 years ago.

I have no interest in defending Trump, but yeah, he said 'only on day one.'

Yes, the DNC failed in that they did not even try to connect with the average, blue-collar working folks (like here in PA), who are trying to simply pay their bills. Out of touch.
Same here in Ohio. The messaging was all about abortion here. The truth is that most people don't care about that issue that much, especially not before bread and butter economic issues, but they cling to it regardless.

What gives me hope is Vance's statement that essentially the Trump Administration will do everything they can to make life better for everyone regardless of who they voted for.
At least that is the message they will aim for. I don't think they care who voted for who in that regard, so that is probably true.

But I don't think Trump is about the little person, he is a businessman and I think he cares about "important" people and how it ultimately can benefit himself whether that is simply boosting his own ego or playing things to his benefit.

I personally don't think the average American person will look back at the upcoming years as being the golden age as he calls it, you have to remember that most of the experienced people he had last time have been fired or left, so it will be interesting to see what group he can assemble to run things and whether they are competent or simply doing whatever crazy things he want to. He has almost complete power to do what he wants and I don't think he is a person that is shy of making use of it.

Will be interesting to see if he is going after all the people that he considers personal enemies because he basically has the power to do that now, which will obviously harm the US democracy, but wouldn't be surprised if he did it.

I am not the average, blue-collar working person who is simply trying to pay their bills, because I have more money than I will ever need or use, but I really feel for people who are struggling to make ends meet through no fault of their own. It's just not fair that people should have to struggle like that and something needs to be done about it.

My condolences to all my fellow Americans. Because not a single one of you is going to get any of what you voted for. You're just going to be used and humiliated, yet again. You deserved better.

I totally agree. Well, I am a bit of freak in that I am a pro-life Christian - who is also a socialist. But yeah, the D's obsession with abortion turned off many people. That is why I had to hold my nose when I pulled the lever (ok, touched a screen lol) for Harris. And keep in mind that the issue is, as intended by the R's, back to the states. Abortion rights is now enshrined in many states (like NY), so there is no 'ban on abortion.' If you want to kill your unborn child, buy a bus ticket to the state next to yours.

Ugh

I too am not stuggling at all. But many of my neighbors are, and the Ds did not talk to them.

Have you ever heard of a dictator who gave up power after one day? If Trump believes he is justified in being a dictator "only on day one" how do you know he won't feel justified in being a dictator on any other given day. When the Congress is not passing the bills he wants, when the States are not going along with his plans, when the media reports stories he does not like. Are you so sure he won't just decide to be a dictator "just for another day", and "another day" and "another day"?

Are you an American? I ask only because you seem to think that there are no safeguards against such wannabe fascists.

Until the corrupt Supreme Court rules that the state laws protecting abortion are illegal.

Congratulations, hopefully, it will turn out good for you, even though I don't like him :D
I do not like him as a person either, but I care about the American people who are struggling to make ends meet, even though I am not struggling at all.
Let's not play God, let's wait and see what happens.

Has life really been that bad for you these last 4 years?
They've been better for me than when Trump reigned.
Better economy for one.
I think one of the big issues is rising prices, rent, goods etc. after COVID. And as expected you blame the sitting government. But a lot of this is not solely their fault, Trump could have done something about it as well, yet didn't. Yet he takes the upper hand in this as the "saviour/solution", but the problem is that US is controlled by corporations and no one will go after them regardless of who is sitting on the throne.

You can see a sharp increase in prices as a result of Covid (or at least using that as an excuse), but the prices have never really returned. So for instance eggs have risen in price by 79% from 2020 to 2024, but that doesn't make sense, there is no Covid anymore and it has happened to a lot of US products and services, which is why a lot of people now struggle, but neither Trump or Biden apparently have done anything against these companies for doing so. And obviously, if you are rich this is no issue, but if you are poor and everything increases in cost you will feel it.

So to me, the issue that the Americans are facing seems to be much more severe than just who is sitting in office, their system is not very good at handling these things because of the extreme inequality in the US.
