Convince me to vote (seriously!)

Nobody should vote.
I'll take that under advisement.
But I still plan to vote.

This time differs from others.
The Republican Party is dominated by Trump's cult.
If he wins, Republicans in other government positions
will enhance his power as an imperial President.
So I'm voting a straight Democrat ticket to help curb
Trump's power.
Yes, Democrats have horrible agendas too, but
those aren't an existential threat to the system.
This option stinks. But less so than the alternative.

I hope this will be the last time I feel the need to vote. I am voting to vote against Mr. Trump. I don’t suppose either party any time soon will be able to present a candidate that would top Trump in terms of… well… Trumpiness. He is a peculiar character in my eyes. I typically view all politicians as authoritarians but Trump is a rapist so that makes it easy to go vote against him. I used to think it was cool Trump was president the first time around because he is an absolute clown and he made a mockery of the Office of Presidency. I saw this as cold water thrown in the face of many statists. But I don’t want “my” country to be ran by a sexual predator. I want there to be at least some pretense of decency, even if I think government as a concept is indecent.

Lol I got lost in my thoughts and didn’t reply to what I meant to.

Straight democrat all the way down, huh? I might adopt that strategy. All the Republican politicians running that I see ads for where I’m at all harp on the fact that they are pro Trump/endorsed by Trump.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do for the rest of my ballot, but I’m thinking I’ll probably go straight democrat too. I’ll still do research, but I’m giving a guess.

It's also easy...just check a single box, as I recall.
For any races without Democrats, I'll vote Libertarian.

My all time favorite scenic view to date took place in Amarillo TX on my way to Cali. I was unable to grab an image with my phone, so I took this one from google search. The difference? The scene permanently embedded in my psyche had a huge John Deer working the turbine fields accompanied with a very similar skyline.

December 4th 2019, if I remember correctly.

Really? It is Kamala that has changer her positions on over 14 issues to try to get elected, not Trump.

Abortion is where it should be, at the state level.

That is not what he wants to do. Your race baiting lies are disgusting. He wants to deport people here illegally no matter where they are from. He wants to deport criminals that are immigrants no matter where they are from.

Ok, but every woman in the US can still get an abortion. What else will he do to women again?

I guess I won't convince you!

having a hand in who gets elected for president is nice if meaningless due to the electoral system, but having a hand in who is elected locally is much more rewarding since it's by popular vote. Also, local politics does have much more of an impact on how things effect you directly, and it's nice to be able to put in your two cents about who you'd like to win. I feel good having voted :)

I for one will just simply call him a “rapist”, dropping the word “convicted”. I don’t think one can argue against that he is one (colloquial definition) unless you think the jury (who are the ones in position to decide using all evidence) are wrong. No need to get technical about whether he is legally a rapist or not.

God, that’s the last I’m saying on this. I hate the topic of SA. I’m so sorry it had to come to bringing that up to convince me to vote against the feller.

Exactly. Person A sees a man holding a woman down and forcibly penetrating her while she cries for help. Later he tells person B (and the police hopefully) that he witnessed a rape. Person B asks if the rapist has has been convicted of rape on a court of law and when told no, denies that it was rape. Person A says "Don't be silly", as any sensible person would. All the evidence needed to call Trump a rapist was presented in a civil court. Enough to make a judgement, surely?

Hello. I just checked to see if I am registered to vote and I am. I voted Libertarian in the 2016 US presidential election so I registered that year.

I haven’t voted since then since I view voting as an act of aggression (this is not the thread to debate this point). But I am no pacifist.

@Quintessence brought up the issue of abortion being perhaps their most important issue this election in another thread/conversation with me. It got me thinking about actually voting.

I see voting as an act of aggression like I said but I do believe in using aggression to defend yourself.

So I wanted to start this conversation with asking which issues are the most important to you when it comes to a candidate’s policies? Abortion rights seems to be a pressing issue in many people’s minds. What other important issues are there that perhaps take precedent over other ones?

I live in Arizona so my vote is super important. I say that with sarcastic italics but they say the swing states are what decide the election. AZ went Trump the first time then not Trump the second time.

Care to make one final pitch for your preferred presidential candidate? I swear I am not trolling or anything, I am serious about being willing to vote.

My thoughts so far are this:
Trump: says he’s anti deep state - got shot in sketch circumstances so that sorta gives his claim some juice in my eye.
Harris: nice to immigrants
Please help me out here I live under a rock I was not planning on voting so I haven’t really been looking into their policies or whatever.

I am unsure how I feel about abortion. I’ve created several threads on the topic now and they have been lengthy and my views have fluctuated and are still under consideration.

Abortion - the killing of the unborn is, IMHO, murder.

Anyway, voting is s privilege. Don't waste your vote!

I have a dream ...

To live where I don't dread the results of every poll.

To live where electioneering for the next election doesn't start one month after the previous election.

To live where the losing party, one day after an election, doesn't vow to frustrate everything the new government does.

To live where the Supreme Court is actually impartial.

To live where no matter which party wins an election, life goes on more or less the same.

To live where I can feel safe.

To live where everyone can feel safe.

To live where sane people are the vast majority.

So why am I changing my "green card" status to that of citizen? Because I want to be part of that change. I'll probably fail, but at least I can try.
