I happen to know a tremendous lot of Hassidic rabbis... and when a female goes to shake their hand, they'll pull their hand away, politely explain why he can't shake her hand, and that's the end of it.

all hell does not break loose.

If a woman happened to shake the hand of a Hassidic rabbi...
caught him off guard perhaps...
the world would not come to an end.
No need for cootie spray.

If a Hassidic rabbi politely explained to a female that his religious oaths
(or whatever) preclude such a thing...
the world would not come to an end.
No need for women's rights hysteria.

People need to lighten up.
If YOU personally do choose to live by "laws"...
it's better to live by the spirit of those laws... than the letter.
IMO.
And do not expect to hold OTHER people, to your own laws.
Your "standards" are YOUR OWN after all.

People need to respect this notion, from both sides of the isle.

It was unnecessary Jew baiting and nothing to do with the OP

I can see how, assuming he did experience such an unusual reaction at some point, it could be a kind of analogy to the unusual reaction in the story in the OP.
But you are, of course, entitled to your opinion on the matter :)

Addendum... the laws that govern a country,
are, sometimes unfortunately, a given that all must follow.
Certainly if a country's laws are in such confrontation
with your own chosen way of life,
you should not move to that place.

I myself would NEVER move somewhere where women didn't have the same legal rights and opportunities as men.
How can I move somewhere like that and then complain?

When people are stuck under governing laws that keep them from living out their deepest personal expression, that is a very sad thing indeed.
If you PUT yourself in such a position, that is just stupid.

Even after a previous Staff advisory asking members to keep it civil, there were many off-topic personal remarks. Unfortunately, the Staff has been forced to close this discussion as a result.
