Being a Muslim makes you barbarian, don't you know this sis? and since you are a Muslim woman, it means you are oppressed and brainwashed by Muslim men too. :(

If that is how you choose to interpret it then there is never any hope of peace.

This thread is becoming chaotic.

Methinks folks in this thread have already said just about everything that's really worth saying. It's just a fight now, and nothing much more illuminating than that. I think the thread is done for.

Violet.
Even in hallways people cannot be curtious and connective on the basic human level...
above & beyond culture, tradition, garb and all things superfluous and superficial.

People elevate "their ways" higher than people themselves.
Can you love me when I say hello from across the hallway?
Can I love you in a burqa? Can I see YOU in spite of your "covering"?
Can you love me in spite of my cleavage and black&purple lipstick?
Can you see ME in spite of my "nakedness"?
Can you love me ? Violet. Regardless of my "openness"?
Can I love you? You. Even if your conservative "style" of life, does not appeal to me personally?

A "culture" or "religion" does not a "Higher Person" make.
It is your HEART ... and the unconditional love in you...
that raises the world up.
Pedistals, on the other hand, are made to be broken.

this thread has gone exactly the way you wanted it to Ymir.

you have got to be one of the most pathetic, double faced members on RF.
I don't know Ymir in person or anything, so I am obviously not able to say one way or another what his intentions may be....but I also don't recall seeing anything in the OP that hinted at some kind of bad intention.....
But you seem to be implying that he had some other goal with starting this thread. And you've expressed this in some rather serious terms....

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I also don't understand where you're coming from. Would you please explain why you think these things?

That struck me as quite lovely :)
If I could, I would frubal you for it. :flower:

Actually, Ghosty, that was not my intent for creating the thread. I was more intrigued by the sociological clash that the people unwittingly found themselves as outlined in the OP. The whole thing was so unnecessary, really. What was confounding is how a routine comment was deemed as something worthy of complaining about.

I agree. Quite unnecessary... lol. I said it because many of your threads do pretty much end up the same way though... so it begged the question at the time --

p.s Did our thread just die!?

Peace be upon you.

It's a fine line between respecting different cultural and religious beliefs and kowtowing to the irrational prejudices of silly belief systems. I'm reminded of situations where a female shakes a Hassidic rabbi's hand and then all hell breaks loose.

I happen to know a tremendous lot of Hassidic rabbis... and when a female goes to shake their hand, they'll pull their hand away, politely explain why he can't shake her hand, and that's the end of it.

all hell does not break loose.

I'm sure Nepenthe was speaking of his own personal experience, and not trying to imply that there is such an extreme reaction in all (or even most) cases :)
