Another note… The BIG TALK GIVETH… but the laws taketh away. I hear a lot of drums and loud shouts on on both sides without much action.

There's been much talk on the Dem side as you should be aware of, and it was the who got help for millions of American families with "Obamacare". A woman we personally know had her life saved because of it.

OTOH, where's the talk on the Pub side on this? All I hear from there are endless complaints about the Dems. Doncha think they should offer something?

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
You know, I knew someone who went to Canada as a foreigner (US) and had to ride an ambulance to the ER. They asked if she had insurance and she didn't. At the end of the day, she had to pay 150$ for the ambulance ride and the ER visit. You know how much she woulda had to pay had she gotten insurance? It would have saved her 100$ and she would have only had to pay 50$ from what she told me

Granted this was a few years ago, so maybe the prices are higher... Still, though. What you ar suggesting isn't even close to comparable. Here the ambulance ride by itself would have been thousands and thousands of dollars without insurance, and it still might be depending on how basic your insurance coverage is. Thankfully I work in a hospital and get good coverage, but I still have to pay the 500$ copay at the very least
All I know is what I know, which is this: In many countries, sure you can get "free" healthcare (except nothing is really free anywhere, so it's paid for by taxes typically) but if you want to avoid long wait times, you best get some private insurance.

Long wait times for what? You still have to wait to be seen by a doctor here, too - depending on the specialist you need to see. I'll wait a little longer if it doesn't put me into debt like it does here

Also keep in mind that those countries as have a higher quality of life and a higher lifespan than we do. When we get sick or injured here, we tend to "wait and see" if we need to go in to see the doctor because of the fear of how expensive it will be to actually be treated by that doctor. I've done that myself for sure

Oh, not me. But maybe I am older than you.

I'm sure it has issues with lobbyist influence, but when looking at actual proportions, one party clearly values profit above people.
I think that is a subjective viewpoint. I see both parties as equal. We always pray and hope that somewhere things will turn around for the better.

Well, for a start, all of their expenses would need to be paid.
I wouldn't mind that. One would have to find a way to guarantee money to pharmaceutical companies that discovered and developed new drugs. One could even reward one that found a new use for an existing drug. But the idea of profiting endlessly off the pain of others is simply wrong. Safe and effective drugs could be promoted by rewarding companies if and when their drugs pass certain milestones without excessive negative side effects. One could rewrite the system. The current one has too many flaws to it.

Yes even those countries are capitalistic and so money speaks, but they don't leave your husband without medication. Sorry but you brought it up.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
They have to pay those CEO's.
Fyi... This guy's pay is almost $78,000 per day, all 365 days

"At the head of the pack for Big Pharma CEO pay last year was J&J’s Joaquin Duato, who saw his total pay leap a staggering 116% to $28.4 million."

Keep on pointing that out it's really important that you do. Nobody's work is worth $78,000 per day.

That is a whole different set of questions, but I thought you were a capitalist and not one of those evil socialists. LOL

I agree that the current system is very flawed and in fact may not be workable. But it HAS produced a lot of great drugs.
Not age, you are younger than me, but maybe your relation to the special class of the military who get state supported health care.
Not me!

Holy illiteracy, batman! Neither I nor the link ever claimed that it was.

Uh, okay? What about the price of tea in China?
I am saying that the average American's expectations are higher than the healthcare they would get if it were "free."
