Demons, is there any evidence they even exist?

I'm reminded of what you said after watching some Christians' antics as well, and I'm also reminded of these two quotes.

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." - Mahatma Gandhi

"The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” - Brennan Manning (also mentioned in the DC Talk song, "What if I Stumble?").

I'd often play this song by Casting Crowns when I was a Christian, and I recall how it made a few Christians around me feel very uncomfortable.

I've always enjoyed that Gandhi quote, but I hadn't seen the other one. Thanks for sharing.

If only some people could see themselves looking from the outside.

All you need is love.
From what I read on here and all the erroneous information bandied about as if it were fact, I can honestly say that I am glad many of you are not in charge of my health and hope are not in charge of the health of anyone but yourselves.

Most of the drugs used to treat mental illness are not addictive and offer help to people that was not available in the past. Despite that many of you have a medical degree from the University of Never Got One, I think I will stick with actual educated and accredited physicians if I ever find myself needing that sort of help. And doing that isn't an attack on God or denial of Christ. Good grief, He gave us brains.

Well said, Dan.

Me either, I just take Him at His Word and ask Him to do what He said He would do in my life:
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.””
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭15‬-‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It's well known even among conservative Bible scholars that this passage is not original to Mark's Gospel. But I digress.

That's true. Many, many years ago I was on drugs that nearly killed me and I was so glad to get off them.

When I was being treated by therapists for PTSD and trauma, I chose not to take medication for personal reasons, but I don't and would never begrudge anyone else who chose to take medication to help them cope with whatever they were dealing with at the time. I understand that it is not my place to judge and tell another adult what they should or should not do for their own healthcare, whether it is mental or physical. I never suggest to my husband or adult children that they stop taking their medications or not take any in the first place. When my children were young, my husband and I would consult the doctor whom we had come to trust with the medical care of our children. My husband, the doctor, and I would discuss possible medicines, and the doctor would explain the medicine and any side effects. Then, my husband and I could make an informed choice about the medicine prescribed to our children.

I agree. People have to do what they feel is right for themselves in order to cope and sometimes they need drugs. I was only describing my personal experience with drugs which was not good, and I had to take homeopathic remedies in order to get off antidepressants.

Most people are not going for homeopathy and many people think it is not real medicine which is why I did not want to mention it, but just like you know that your paranormal experiences are real, I know my experiences with homeopathy for 10 years was real, not a placebo effect.

Except that sometimes it's true about doctors prescribing medications that could hurt a person and get hooked with serious consequences
I didn't get "hooked" but I was taken off Haldol for anger, and there was a reaction that gave me Tardive Dyskinesia. Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a movement disorder characterized by uncontrollable, abnormal, and repetitive movements of the face, torso, and/or other body parts..

Fortunately there was drug to counteract that, though after a period of hell. For a time I had a lot of trouble walking, and couldn't eat because my jaws chattered uncontrollably when I tried to chew.

Do you speak in tongues?
Do you speak in tongues?
I do pray in the Spirit, or tongues and with understanding.

“Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭13‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Seems some passive aggressive demons manifesting in people on here tonight IMO, Come out in Jesus Name!

Why are you equating a headache or a stubbed toe or paper cut with someone that would be a drug addict, have schizophrenia, tormented in their dreams, someone with serious anger issues, suicidal thoughts and things like this?
I never referred to stubbed toes or paper cuts. Headaches, drug addiction, schizophrenia, anger issues and suicidal thoughts are all caused by brain defects so it is logical to lump them in together. Also you claimed to have a "spiritual approach" to determining whether an illness was demons or not, so what is this spiritual approach and how does it rule out headaches and other brain defects as being caused or not caused by demons?
I have seen many people like myself that have been delivered from all kinds of things that were caused by demons. Once people get saved through Jesus Christ, repent by renouncing all occult practices, generational curses, unforgiveness and resentment due to many reasons, and there are many ways people can be tormented by demons, During the renouncing and repentance demons manifest and show themselves, at that time they are expelled in the Name of Jesus and have to obey the authority of His Name and leave that person. Jesus owns the believer not the demon.
It wouldn't make sense for me to renounce occult practices because I dont have any, nor have you demonstrated any link between occult practices and any of the mental illness you mentioned as I see it.

What on earth is a "generational curse"? Is it something your preachers made up?

In my opinion.

Almost as though spirituality does not have to be at odds with science! Gasp! Don't tell the kids!
From some people that call themselves Christian, I get the strong sense that they are thrilled with misery and unhappiness in others. It justifies their feelings of superiority that isn't very spiritual. I wonder if that could be a manifestation of a demon. I guess I'll never know, since no one will tell us what the defining characters and criteria are for knowing they exist or are in action.

Maybe demon is just a metaphor for the crap behavior people dump on each other lording their piety.

Many people testify to this fact.
Many, many people can also attest to how their medication helps them and keeps their families together in love and growth.

My father was a Marine and suffered head trauma in combat. The end result was that he developed bipolar disorder. I was a baby at the time, but one story I was told later in life was that he woke the whole family up in the middle of one night and put everyone on guard duty around the house, because the Chinese were massing for attack. My mother got him to doctors. He followed their advice. Regularly took his medication and the man I grew up with was a kind and loving father with no indication of problems like that. The man that suffered hallucinations and PTSD was just stories I was told when I was older.

No demons. Just head injury and disease. The medication and treatment were the answer to prayers. Not some witch crafty fringe interpretation of Christianity over fear of things that go bump in the night so we could all feel good about ourselves by chastising a sick man.

If you all spent as much time actually helping people as you do cutting them up for not being as superior spiritually as you are, then perhaps that might be the best way to spread the love of Christ.
How am I “cutting people up”? Who ever said I was superior? Jesus is the one who is awesome.
I was one of the worst who received mercy and was healed, nothing good in me except His Spirit.
I do help people and the only reason I’m on this thread is so anyone who wants to can know who and how I was delivered. Can seek out Jesus Christ for themselves and also know people are still being delivered from demons today “In the Name of Jesus”. Not my name or by any of my own strength or wisdom but it all comes from The Lord Jesus Christ as the Bible says and that’s my view.
