He is as fallible as anyone else. And he certainly doesn't have the stature of Moses.

I follow ethical laws too I hate to tell ya.

I wonder how many of these reform Jews attend synagogue on more than a once or twice per year basis? I wonder how many of them could daven or wrap tefillin on their own? I wonder how many have read any Jewish philosophy? How many of them continue practicing Judaism? Fast on Tish B'av? Those numbers are what really matter.

I put M. Mendalsohn in the same league as the other two Moses'. Paradigm changers.

I am glad to hear you follow ethical laws. That is why you support attacking an innocent couple having an interfaith marriage ?

I think you missed my earlier point. You think wrapping Tefillin makes you a better Jew than one who does not ? That ritualistic tribalistic thinking makes you a dinosaur. You need to understand what Judaism is really about.

"Protesters, many of them young men wearing black shirts, denounced Malka, who was born Jewish and converted to Islam before the wedding, as a "traitor against the Jewish state," and shouted epithets of hatred towards Arabs including "death to the Arabs." They sang a song that urges, "May your village burn down.""

Very sad story. Btw, I believe this sort intolerance and hatred is rare amongst Jews.

If you say so.

Did I say I condone what happened in the news report?

The customs mitzvot exist for a reason- they help Jews connect to Judaism and make Judaism something physically and spiritually comprehensible. Without it, how is Judaism any different than say Universal Unitarianism?

And I love dinosaurs so being one myself would be pretty ******* awesome.

If only I can find a dinosaur-sized yarmulke...

I suggest we not debate UU. Given how little you know about reform, the discussion would be even less informed.

Please don't lecture me about the importance of ritual. If you study the history of reform you will see much of ritual was rejected. Had any shrimp recently ? ;)

No worries, you are already an honorary dinosaur. :D

What point is there to a religion if there's nothing to follow? No real objective moral goal? What values does reform Judaism have that make it anymore meaningful than a general belief in theism?

And no, I haven't had shrimp. I try to keep a strict pescetarian diet if I eat out.

Jews in general? Yes. But Israel has a big problem with right-wing wackjobs.

Have a look at this video:

There are surely extremists on both sides. This has been the case 2,000 years, even longer.

I have stated on other threads that I believe we need to work on 3 areas in the Middle East: education, intelligence and communication. Perhaps you can add to this list.

I hope we don't repeat the same mistakes of the past.....again.

Of course reform has moral goals. I have been trying to tell you, but you do not listen. Reform Jews uphold the ethical Halacha. These are Jewish laws.

My allusion to shrimp refers to the "treif banquet".

It is getting late for me now, xkatz, I will be glad to continue the debate tomorrow or after. At least in the debate subs- I can speak freely.

In the Middle East as a whole? That's a pretty big subject. I think a big thing is that people need to recognize the common humanity of their fellow human beings. That Vice article about the out of control racism and genocidal fervor in Israel is chilling. The best solution to such things is usually exposure. The Jewish and Arab people in Israel tend to be pretty segregated. They need to spent more time together in normal social activities. It's similar to South Africa or when racism was out of control in America.

I agree, Frank, and glad to discuss further....good evening !

You see? The analogy gets stronger...... you could not become a Gravesend Brickie, and my Father-in-Law could not become a Jew...

You missed my point entirely. I could not be another "race" because "race" is just a stupid idea we associate with skin colors. Whereas, on the other hand, non-Jews absolutely can become Jews. Conversion is essentially adoption into the Jewish family: the only things required are the passion and dedication to begin learning Hebrew and Jewish text and tradition, which anyone could do if they wished.

What is this, the Twilight Zone? You people must be posting from a parallel universe where calling out bigotry is "bigotry" and "ethnocentrism". Something wrong with you people. It's scary.

"Something wrong with you people"? Oh, I think I know what that really says.
