Propane is twice as energy efficient as natural gas which I think is why some claim its the cleanest fossil fuel.
Depends what you mean by efficiency. Both burn essentially 100% to CO2 and water, so no difference in combustion efficiency. It's true that methane gives out less heat per unit volume of gas (at the same pressure). So methane needs fatter pipes. But per unit mass they are almost the same. And propane is worse than methane for CO2 emission, as it has more carbon and less hydrogen in its molecules. (Ratio of water: CO2 is 2:1 for methane but 4:3 for propane.)

Do some states have more gas stoves because they have more (and therefore cheaper) gas?
8% of Floridians have gas stoves vs 70% of Californians.

Electricity is about half the cost in Florida. Natural gas is twice the cost in Florida vs Calif. Still natural gas is cheaper than electricity in both states.

Electricity is cheaper to install and since there is a lot of new housing in Florida, I imagine builders prefer going with electric.
Also, electricity is much less of a financial burden for the household in Florida so less overall demand.

Funny thing though, 2/3 of Florida's electricity is generated by natural gas.

And all the chemistry teachers wept because there were no more Bunsens to burn.
I suspect they cheered, actually.....

At school, we discovered you could unplug the Bunsens' rubber gas tubing from the gas taps and connect them to the water taps instead. Then, if you unscrewed the barrel of the burner, and turned on the water, the nozzle in the base would give you a nice jet, several feet high. Also, you could use the rubber tubes to connect the water supply to the gas supply  and fill the gas pipes progressively with water, whereupon the Bunsens on each bench would mysteriously go out, one by one.

Chemistry teaching must have been hell. :D

However, I don't think they included facts about LP gas. It burns 2x as efficient as natural gas. I can grab the research if you want it. But I know that you can have a propane unvented heater within your house. Because it burns completely clean. You cannot do that with natural gas. It would cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
How is this efficiency calculated?

I have a 900W microwave, with convection and grill options, and also a 700W microwave. And have to 'cook' everything on these. Still having issues with the electrics.

In these here parts, of all the Chinese immigrants
& ABCs I've seen, nobody uses a wok. Flat bottomed
skillets (big'ns) do the job on electric or gas burners.

For the unfamiliar....
ABC = Ameristanian Born Chinese.

HKBC here, and I say they are
probably heating tater tots.

Nope, all the usual northern Chinese fare.
No one needs woks. They're just fasionable
here & there, not everywhere.
It needs to have more than rice and
frozen broccoli florets to be Chinese.

There were two ABC who opened an
American style Chinese restaurant in Beijing. I don't know how it worked out.

"Natural gas produces more energy than any of the fossil fuels. It has a 92% efficiency rate from wellhead to home, compared to electricity generated by coal, which operates at only a 32% efficiency rate.

Natural gas energy is also cost effective; as a fossil fuel abundant in the U.S., natural gas is one of our greatest domestic energy sources. National Fuel reports that around 90% of the natural gas consumed in the U.S. comes from within the country, and nearly 100% of it comes from North America.

90% of natural gas consumed in America is produced in the U.S., and 100% is produced in North America"

You would need a reliable source for those claims. They may be misusing the term "efficient".

So, I'm still not clear on exactly what a stove is even after looking at this: Kitchen stove - Wikipedia Is it a synonym for oven - just the baking chamber? For a range, which appears to be an oven combined with a stovetop? Is it an inexact term that is used interchangeably for both?

I was thinking of the latter (a range cooker) when I made this thread.
