You state that "these big men make billions" Who exactly would that include? The actors? Director? Producers? What about the writer? or the grip? or the caterer? or the stuntman or make-up or bestboy? or hairdresser? or editor? or art director? or set director? or costume designer? or anyone on the second unit? or the art depatment or sound department or visual effects team? or location manager or ????

I could go on and on.

so, which of these is getting those "billions" again?

I bet it ain't the production assistant. ;)

Most "artists" in the music industry make one or two songs per CD that are worth listening to and the rest is just crap. Most movies are not worth the box they are packaged in. When I find something I really enjoy I'll pay full price for it. But I'm certainly not going to gamble 15 to 20 dollars on a CD when I've only heard of one song on it. If I were to participate in file sharing, it would be a way to sift through all the crap and find something I actually like.

I agree 100% with you. If its a good movie, ill watch it, or get it. If its okish, then ill go online.

You know what you're doing is wrong, but you don't feel guilty. That's great for society.

Come on people, pirating movies hurts others.

Actors do, directors do, producers do, editors do, while they make a fortune, we are giving them a shower in money. It doesent hurt anyone. I mean, $100,000 isnt going to hurt a $100,000,000 account is it? These people who video the movies, i WOULD NEVER DO THAT. I just watch em, so do all the others of people. But, i don't see any big site shut down operations going on, do you? It isnt bad or good for society. Pirating isn't killing, that is bad for society. Think about it, you contribute a few measly pounds/dollars, that ain't gonna hurt them.

I quite often download music off purevolume™ | We're Listening To You. It is not illegal as bands make their own pages their to put their music on. They can set it so you can either just listen to it from the site or download it from the site. It is a great way to find new bands.

Agreed. What you've described is not pirating. In fact, I believe it to be the future of entertainment distribution.

Did South Park tell you that? :p

Would you like to address all the other people I listed? Or did you omit them because it would blow your "it ain't gonna hurt them" argument out of the water???

Well, the others get, paid, just not as much. They still make a LOT of money. They get there set amount. These that i listed make their money according to the cinema-goers. South Park? I'm lost.
Oh it didn't blow my water. I expected you to know that already

No, never have, just purchased a computer with a DVD burner and was wondering if there were any good legal video shareware programs other than LimeWire.

All filesharing programs are legal.

I suggest utorrent as it is small and resource efficient. Torrent (Bitcomet, utorrent etc.) programs are also generally superior to P2P (limewire, KaZaA etc.) as the concept on which they are based is superior.

I think you don't know the film industry at all. Not every film is a big budget summer blockbuster.

I don't feel a need to pirate (steal) movies. I have even been given DVDs from time to time, and have yet to watch ANY of them.

If I want to watch a movie, I will GLADLY pay for it through premium channels or by buying the DVD.

Filesharing is legal. Using filesharing to distribute copyrighted material is not.
I doubt anyone on this forum is selling copied material and I doubt anyone here has ever met anyone who is involved with this sort of illegal business.

The Chinese are more of a threat to the computer software, film and music biz than Americans, I would think, from what Bill Gates has discovered and spoken out about publicly.

...or rent it for a buck at the local grocery store or pay for a 10 dollar a month all you can rent Hollywood Video membership.

I've probably spent no more than a few hundred bucks over a lifetime of rentals.

Not much worth renting or buying.

I've never downloaded or purchased a movie in my life, just rented, but still that's maybe only once or twice a month, unless I am really really bored then I go all out and get a 10 dollar membership for a month or two and watch a bunch of stuff...

Not much good out there to watch at all, right now, it seems.

Penguino has stated he/she watched Beowulf online. Is this not copyrighted material???

Filesharing is legal. Using filesharing to distribute copyrighted material is not.
So it's legal to download and watch a movie in your home for free, using a file sharing program, just as long as you don't burn a DVD and sell it to another?

But is it still morally right to download a movie for free and watch it, using a file sharing program?

Is that what you're asking? If not and you have the answers to these questions, please share your thoughts, because they are on my mind now as well.

But you have just stated that file sharing is legal, which he's pointed out that he uses.

He's not selling the movie to another, only watching it in his own home. which apparently is legal, but maybe not morally right.

I have some reservations about downloading and watching movies and music as well, so I'd like to clarify things also by understanding the rules.

Good topic of discussion.

Penguino has suggested FrostWire, kind of like LimeWire I suppose. Will have to look it up.

Again, I've just purchased a new computer with plenty of space for movies, with a standard CD/DVD burner.

What are the rules ???

Has the LDS church spoken out about this?
