Do you pirate movies online?

nutshell

This is a little different to stealing a car nutshell. If i didn't now it was Fluffy's car, then yeah! Why not? Look, i cant justify it with the law, neither can you, since you don't follow all the laws of your country you cant advise another on law. The point is, its all to do with mone.

That's a strawman because it's not all to do with money.

It's also a strawman to say I don't follow all the laws of my country. For one thing you have no idea whether I do or not and for another, that's not the issue here.

So, to clarify, you're saying it's OK to take the car I offered you even if I stole it from Fluffy?

Look, the Fluffy thing is irrevelant, it is differnt, you steal a car, JAIL, you watch a pirated film, no-one cares. No-one, absolutely no-one follows every single law in the world! Only then you can ever tell me about the law. It is to do with money!! They want pirating to stop so you HAVE to pay money to them. They wanna stop pirating so you can stop making money by showing it or to selling it to others. Money is the only motive? Why do you want to stop stealing? So you don't loose anything and fork out cash for another of whatever was stolen. Money is the one and only motive.

No - harming others is relevant.
Following every single law in the world argument is a strawman.
A lot of people don't steal not because they fear losing something, they don't steal simply because they know it's wrong.

Since you're avoiding a straight answer with the Fluffy's car analogy, may I assume you recognize the wrongness of the action?

Its not stealing, i didt steal it. I just watch it. Im just the person who makes use of it. Go after the real people who go teh cinema to video it for the millions of people around the world are not rich enough to go the cinema every weekend to see all the brand new blockbusters.

You enable the primary criminal.

And, you're still getting something for nothing.

If i stopped, millions around the world would not stop watching the films he provides, FOR FREE. One more time, not EVERYONE is rich to go to the cinemas, spend a heckuva load of money, and do it every weekend...

Wow, this is like instant chat.

I'm groovy, pengi - how are u?

I'm sorry, but the "everyone is doing it" argument doesn't fly - that doesn't make things right. And, it's not about being rich/having money - it's about causing harm, which you admitted to several posts back.

Im causing harm (which i am not) to the little ones. I dont watch little films. I watch huge blockbusters. I honestly am not saying just because everyone else does it, its ok, i know that. I agree there. But the fact remains those big people dont even realise i didnt buy their DVD, or what their film.

R@G$ - I is doing well good man. WHat be gwanin wit u?

Earlier, you said the following:

The Steven Spielbergs of Hollywood dont lose much from us.

This is an admission that you are causing harm.

No i am not! That is the point, the biggies dont feel it. Sure they loose the odd million, but they can make that in a day by driving a car, or appearing in a magazine or tv show, for one hour!

You said "they don't lose much." That means they do lose something. Are you retracting your earlier statement and now saying they don't lose anything?

If you went to a theater you would know the anti-pirating commercials that play before the feature include those you think aren't hurt "much." Why is that?

1. Did i, sorry, well i take back my previous statement.

2. I do go to a theater. Im not an animal you know, i do go to the cinema i like it mroe then my computer. It wouldnt say that, would it. Thats like saying, it isnt that bad, if all you lot pirate, it wont affect us. Its like giving £20 note to a random person on the street and begging them to take it.

So, in one post you said they don't lose much, which is saying they do lose something. Why are you taking back that statement? More importantly, why did you say they don't lose much to begin with? And, if they don't lose anything, why is it these very people who are asking people not to pirate?

I'm sorry, but I really don't understand this part at all. Can you please rephrase it. Thanks.

But here's the kicker: You didn't receive an offer from the true owner, you received an illegal offer - one you cannot legally accept.

It's no different than if I stole one of Fluffy's cars (lets say Fluffy is mega-rich and won't even miss it) and than "offered" it to you for free. Do you really think you can accept the car?
I don't think this is a very accurate analogy. When someone "pirates" a movie they are just making a copy and passing that along. The owner still has the origional. It would be more accurate to say that I have a replicating machine and I made an exact copy of Fluffy's car and then allowed others to make an exact copy of my copy. Fluffy won't miss anything because Fluffy's car is right there where it belongs. Fluffy can't claim to have missed a sale simply because I copied the car, since there are many cars I don't copy that I don't buy.

And even that is wrong. Because the selling the song would deliver money to the songwriter. So it would more be that that car is actually an icecreamselling car. Somebody buys or steals an icecream from you and then copies the icecream and starts giving it away to your customers :p
You still have your receipy but half your customers are gone..

Indie films are likely to be pirated, too. Not just blockbusters. When you pirate movies, you are most definitely hurting the "little" people in the business like myself, my two brothers (who are filmmakers), and many of my friends who are in filmmaking. Film is an art, and art deserves to be copyrighted for it's protection if it is to be sold to the general public.

Please stop focusing on this as a noble act of civil disobedience/revolt against the film bourgeoisie and look at the entire picture (no pun intended). The more money funneled out from the film industry from pirating and stealing the less work there is for people like us.

Peace,
Mystic

Well, i never watch the "indie" films. I never intend to watch those sort of movies. Only blockbusters, and, for the last time, big people don't see the money difference, and thats all thats important to them.
