I voted yes, as I agree with several statements here, that what adults choose to do with their bodies, assuming it's legal, is no one else's business. It only becomes a problem when Fundies feel it's their business to push their views on everyone else and attempt to ban porn, close porn shops, strip clubs, etc.

Caution! This video is explicit. Some Abrahamic adherents might be offended.

Porn is perhaps one of the most legitimate facets of society. From earliest cave art to the most advanced
computer technology, porn is the primary subject of early adopters, & the most durable literary form.
Note that whenever government or religion try to make it off limits, porn adjusts its presentation to be
acceptable. Gratuitous artistic flourish, social commentary, & political allegory will be added until even
the most repressed religionist & pious puritan can enjoy it semi-guilt-free.

As a vegetarian and an adherent to an Abrahamic religion, I am appalled and insulted by this pornographic video!

:slap:

I am torn between the utilitarian purpose of pornographic materials, and the fact that they sexualise and exploit both women and men simultaneously.

It sure does. It provides a safe alternative to express urges that might be otherwise become dangerous or at least socially awkward.

I'm told that, among other things, it is helpful in keeping paedophilic activity down.

It does provide in the unseemly side an outlet for otherwise undesireable passions in people, if one includes phone adult acting for money and other forms of non-physical outlets as pornography.

Title pending.
I dunno. What I'm hung up about is this: Where there's money involved, I think there will always be struggling people with no choice, and that's absolutely wrong, in my view.

I do, however, think people should be allowed to do whatever they want, as long as they don't explicitly harm anybody. So, yeah, I guess I disagree with the porn industry, but if people want to perform sexual acts and make them public, and people want to watch it, that's, well, maybe not fine, but, it's an evil that I'm willing to accept.

Besides, I know for a fact that I've watched porn before, and the part about that fact that bothers me the most is not the whole 'misdirected lust' thing, because, well, realistically speaking, that's to be expected from (almost all) teenagers, it's the notion that i might have been watching some poor couple struggling to keep the cash flowing in by doing something they didn't want to do.

I guess I'll call this a not sure.

except for when those pedophiles are creating their preferred type of porn, yes?

Whether pedophiles create porn or not doesn't change the fact that they are pedophiles and will take advantage of children whether they post pics/video or not.

Incidently did you know that because of them posting porn pics, that it's easier to catch them now?

So would you now rather have them just sit quiet or post pics and make it easier to get caught?

now that's a catch 22 if ever i heard one

but just to be clear, the porn industry is not only on the internet...there are plenty of places for it to hide and plenty of people who are may not even be pedophiles involved in producing porn for that market

If you don't approve, then don't watch it. It's pretty much that simple. This isn't directed at you, just to anyone that takes issue with porn. No different than parents complaining about programming on tv. If they weren't half *** parents then they could control what their kids aren't watching inappropriate programs.

Censorship of media is the fault of crappy parents and the religious.

Well I don't think there's a catch. Pedophiles will exploit children whether on the internet or not. I would rather have them "trade" photos with each other and get caught, then just be the "silent" pedophile who may never get exposed or caught. If they want to keep exchanging photos, then the system can catch up and track down ALL of the perps since the software works on identifying things like the IP addresses, etc.
Just like they do on "To Catch a Predator", bait them then get them.

catching them doesnt solve the problem though

but if pornography really had a legitimate place in society, it should be legitimate in all its forms. Why should one form of pornography be legitimate for one particular group, but not another form which caters to another group?

if porn really acted as a safe alternative way to express urges, then that should stand true for all urges...yet we recognize that this is not the case because not all urges are acceptable or safe.

But letting them go doesn't help deter it either. I would like to think that we are at least putting some of the bad behind bars.

That's a blanket statement. Free speech is very legitimate and without it we wouldn't be able to voice opinions. But along with it you will get libel, hate speech, instructions to destruct, and BS information for desperate people (like Keven Trudeau's Secret Cures book). So to say that ALL porn isn't legitimate isn't true. You're just picking the bad out.

What has made you come to the conclusion that for pornography to be valid all of its forms have to be valid?

It is a flawed conclusion. We could change the word 'pornography' in your post for 'sex' and retain the same meaning, for example.

It makes no sense to hold such opinion, right?

No, because there is a great difference between forms of pornography that show naked women in sexy poses and such that show women enchained and tortured.
The first is harmless and when the photographer does his job right, even a piece of art can be the result.
The second is sadistic and degrading. Same goes for pedophilic pornography.

Pornography is an industry that exists upon the principles of rampant sexism, chauvinism and exploitation. Do we honestly think it is right for an 18-year-old to take place in sex acts for money? I should hope not, but it seems to be the dominant view that there is nothing wrong with a porn producer approach an 18-year-old fresh out of college, telling him/her that he/she can make a lot of money by having sex with other people while they are filmed.

it's the notion that i might have been watching some poor couple struggling to keep the cash flowing in by doing something they didn't want to do.

You seem to be missing the point, .Frame. According to liberal theory, that couple would be compensated for those acts, so there is no problem. That is the insanity of the dominant ideology in the United States.
