Does The Bible Contain Errors And Contradictions

Spice

@Charles Philips, I've played with you a little along the way in this thread, and I do apologize for one of my posts that made you angry. I can see you are a very devout Christian of one mindset and if it works for you as it should, then you are blessed. If it fails to work for you, as it has many, I have faith God will find you wherever you are in your spiritual journey. I do want to point out a few things, from my perspective, for you to pray on as you see fit:
Many Historians have studied the 66 books of the Bible, and compared them to secular contemporaries, to see if they could find any contradiction or errors. Most of those who set out to find faults with the Bible, became devout Christians instead. Because they found no faults of contradictions.
There are indeed contradictions, as men are fallable. Even if one believes God is speaking to them, IMO, they're hearing as humans, and mistakes can be made. Even Peter made the mistake of denying Christ 3 times, and he was warned ahead of time that he would.

Here's one of the clearest sets of contradictions that doesn't hurt the message, however, indicates very strongly that "man" has had his finger in the pot, so to speak:
Same story, 4 accounts:
MT 28:1-6
"1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week,a Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2Suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled away the stone, and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards trembled in fear of him and became like dead men. 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where He lay."

Mk 16:1-6
"1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint the body of Jesus. 2Very early on the first day of the week,a just after sunrise, they went to the tomb. 3They were asking one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance of the tomb?” 4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, even though it was extremely large. 5When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 6But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here! See the place where they put Him."

LK 24:1-11
"1On the first day of the week,a very early in the morning, the women came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were puzzling over this, suddenly two men in radiant apparel stood beside them. 5As the women bowed their faces to the ground in terror, the two men asked them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you while He was still in Galilee: 7‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.’” 8Then they remembered His words. 9And when they returned from the tomb, they reported all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. 11But their words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe the women."

JN 20:1-2
"1Early on the first day of the week,a while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,” she said, “and we do not know where they have put Him!”

So, it's agreed a woman, or women, went to the tomb on Sunday morning, but who actually went and who was there instead of Jesus? IMO, it doesn't matter, but it is proof of error in the written version of God's Word.
The 66 books of the Bible were written by 36 unrelated authors from various parts of the world over a period of 2,500 years, yet none of the accounts contradict each other. But the main reason so many became believers is due to the 356 prophecies which were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The whole Bible is about Jesus Christ. God's Prophets foretold of His coming into the world thousands of years before He came.
Many of the authors of the New Testament at least, were very much "related." Paul is given credit for penning 80% of the New Testament. Luke, the presumed author of the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts was a close follower of Paul's, as were Timothy and Titus. This puts a great deal of bias into their words. They were trying to establish churches, and Paul clearly stated he would be whoever he needed to be to succeed in that effort.
There is a list in the link, showing every one of the 356 prophecies and their fulfilment. This is well worth a look, as it provides irrefutable evidence that the Bible is a reliable historical document. No other historical figure ever came close to changing the world forever as Jesus Christ did.

From following this thread, this appears to be the only "evidence" you have provided for your position in the debates.
It's an interesting web-page. I would ask that you investigate this source of your claims and take note of how very, very little of is pulled from the Gospels. I find it extremely Paulinian, and that always gives me pause. But that's my position.

I wish you the faith of the Centurion, and the wisdom of James who advised in chapter 1, verses 5 & 6, that should anyone have a lack of wisdom, ask God with no doubting.

Pray - speak with the Almighty
Meditate - listen for His direction
Be humble, be kind, and remember:
Complaints are prayers to the Devil.

Be blessed........

It's lower because it's just a piece of paper given to those who regurgitated what they were fed by false professors. My sources have documented proven facts
ROFL and these sources of your "documented proven facts," what is their claim of being authorities on the matter based on?

FWIW, I like others also suspect you of catfishing the room.

LOL, your thanking God but you don't believe in Him. Wow, you really do take the cake for most confused and incoherent individual ever
I believe in God and I believe in Jesus and I believe in all the other Messengers of God.
I believe in Jesus and revere Jesus because of what Baha'u'llah wrote about Jesus. I never believed in Jesus before I became a Baha'i.

“Know thou that when the Son of Man yielded up His breath to God, the whole creation wept with a great weeping. By sacrificing Himself, however, a fresh capacity was infused into all created things. Its evidences, as witnessed in all the peoples of the earth, are now manifest before thee. The deepest wisdom which the sages have uttered, the profoundest learning which any mind hath unfolded, the arts which the ablest hands have produced, the influence exerted by the most potent of rulers, are but manifestations of the quickening power released by His transcendent, His all-pervasive, and resplendent Spirit.

We testify that when He came into the world, He shed the splendor of His glory upon all created things. Through Him the leper recovered from the leprosy of perversity and ignorance. Through Him, the unchaste and wayward were healed. Through His power, born of Almighty God, the eyes of the blind were opened, and the soul of the sinner sanctified.

Leprosy may be interpreted as any veil that interveneth between man and the recognition of the Lord, his God. Whoso alloweth himself to be shut out from Him is indeed a leper, who shall not be remembered in the Kingdom of God, the Mighty, the All-Praised. We bear witness that through the power of the Word of God every leper was cleansed, every sickness was healed, every human infirmity was banished. He it is Who purified the world. Blessed is the man who, with a face beaming with light, hath turned towards Him.”

Gleanings From the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh, pp. 85-86

The miracles do not prove that the Bible is God's Word. Anyone can write a book that says miracles were performed.
As for the prophecies, Jesus fulfilled some OT prophecies but Baha'u'llah fulfilled all of the prophecies for the return of Christ and that ihas ben proven.

Sure you do. Christianity has been around for over 2000 years. But Islam also has almost as many personal testimonies and it will soon overtake Christianity in numbers of adherents. Christianity is slowly dying, as more and more Christians drop out and become atheists..

Statistics show that from 1910-2010, the Baha’i Faith grew at a rate of 3.54%, whereas during that time Islam grew at a rate of 1.97% and Christianity grew at a rate of 1.32%.

From 2000-2010 Islam became the fastest growing religion (1.86 %) and the Baha’i Faith was the second fastest growing religion (1.72%).

Statistics from: Growth of religion

If the Bible is evidence for Christianity is it also evidence for Judaism, since the OT is about Judaism.
Christians have tried to commandeer the Jewish scriptures to make them about Jesus, but they are not about Jesus. Only the NT is about Jesus.
Again, all baseless subjective circular reasoning with no foundation of evidence, other than your private warped opinion.

As for the statistics, they support Christianity as Jesus did say that He is going to cast the vast majority of humanity into the lake of fire. He said He would only save a small number of people, so thanks for confirming that with those stats

I suspect that you are making the mistake of taking something literally that is meant figuratively. God has no body, nor form, thus he has no face. However, sometimes we used a figurative form of speech called anthropomorphisms, when is when you speak of an animal or deity as having human traits. You see this in the Bible when it talks about "the arm of God" or "God sitting on his throne." Basically, no one can see the face of God because God doesn't have a face.
I am not focusing on the face.
i am focusing on the dyeing part.

But then I notice I was turning into a sarcastic arse in my replies so I stopped.

Nothing in my post that you quoted was sarcastic.

Are you saying that you are focusing on God dying? Can you tell me what you are basing this idea on? Are you trying to logically deduce it from your assumption that Jesus is God and he died, or is it from something else?

Obviously, since dying is something that happens to corporeal life, and God is not a corporeal being, God does not die.

No sarcasm in any of this. I'm playing it very straight with you.

Again a lot of baseless words and no substance. Sorry but I can't afford to place my eternal security in your private Subjective Circular Reasoning. You failed to prove anything, all you have to back your claims is SCR, and that just doesn't work on me. I'm far too intelligent to fall for that kool aid stuff
Was that too hard for you to understand?

If you make a claim against someone else the burden of proof is upon you. If I claimed that you were a rapist, and I am in no way doing so, the burden of proof would be upon me. You keep claiming "circular reasoning" but can never show it. And yet you use it all of the time for your silly beliefs.

God is not a man at all, so God cannot be a white man...

But you were right about on thing. Everything about God is important, especially the latest Revelation from God.
Nope, your wrong again. God is a Man, He even said "come let us make man in Our image" so you flunk out again there.

God hasn't given us any revelation in the past 2000 years, so you flunk out there as well. I wonder if anything you believe is true at all, most people have one or two things, you still stuck on zero.

Me too. What color do you think that he is going for? A nice chartreuse maybe?

Aah, that is when it is just getting fun.

Seriously it is hard to take such a poster seriously. He could be a poe. Or he could be real. It seems to be an awful lot of effort if one is just poeing.

I often hear Christians refer to these "hundreds" of prophecies. The fact that you all can't even agree on exactly how many there are should be your first clue that there is a problem here.

Jews see relatively few prophecies. How is it that Christians "see" so many more? It is directly related to the differences of importance of the Messiah in each respective religion.

While the idea of a messiah does originally come from Judaism, it is not central. We have no motivation to "find" a gazillion prophecies about the messiah.

But to Christians, the messiah is THE core of their religion. And because it permeates their thoughts, their tendency is to assume that it permeates scripture. They are therefore primed to "see" prophecies where none exist. The New Testament quotes prophecy out of context (i.e. Hosea 11:1, which is about Israel, not the messiah), misquotes prophecy (i.e. Isaiah 7:14 which is rightly translated young maiden, not virgin), and even makes up prophecy out of whole cloth (such as Matthew 2:23, He shall be called a Nazarene aka someone from the city of Nazareth.) But even more stunning is the development of this irrational idea that somehow things that are not at all related to the messiah are somehow "shadows" about Jesus.

If I could give you an analogy, it is similar to when people find bunnies and castles in the clouds, or see the Virgin Mary in the random patterns in tiles.

If you wear glasses that have "Jesus" etched in the lenses, you are going to see Jesus everywhere you look.
The hundreds of prophecies are mostly quote mining. In other words, lying using the Bible. I try to show people like this that quote mining is never valid. For example at least 12 different times the Bible says "There is no God". That is a quote mine. It is taken out of context. In each and every time. But if I do not give the chapter and verse there are very very few people that can find all of them and refute them showing the context. The same is done with the hundreds of prophecies, but worse. They quite often clearly are verses about Israel if you read them in context. They are almost never about Jesus.

When @Colt said the Bible is full of errors and contradictions as well as inaccurate historical claims but the problem is that some of the Bible is true he was spot on.
I have never used a black and white fallacy about the Bible. But the way some extremists react when an error is pointed out to them you would think that I just had done so. It is the extremists that will claim either all of it is true or none of it is true.

Yeah, I know. "But it's TRUE!" is the first thing that comes out of every racist's mouth.
I'm not sure if your aware of the fact that everyone is racist, whether they admit it or not. It's just a dirty little secret everyone tries to hide but it's bleeding obvious we all are. So be proud of who you are and stop apologizing for your skin color, we know it's a fake apology and we only do it to gain some benefit.
