I've been quarreling constantly with a friend over this. He says Trump is going to fix it and I disagreed, to put it mildly. Reading the headline on the BBC is got a sweet surge of validation and snickered to myself. But this is foolish. Anyone else feeling smug should consider that even if you despise Trump this is one of the few places he could have done something good for everyone.

Well I was wrong for saying Ha your right this could've been some good. Just seems like he cant do anything right. It would've been good for the world I guess I'm wrong.

Um... it almost went nuclear because the US almost used nukes, not because the US was threatened. Either way, it's not comparable to the current situation because any unilateral military action by DPRK won't be materially or politically supported by China.
So you are now an expert in China's policies. Wow!!!!!

However to me the OP sounds like a tribute to a God. Trump is no God. Part of that ha came from sarcasm to the Nobel peace prize idea.

So like the rest of the anti-Trump pundits you are blaming him for attempting to sit down with North Korea and then blaming him when it falls through.

Enough to know that the globally integrated China of today is not about to threaten it's international standing over North Korea the way isolated Maoist 1950s China was, yes.

No i did not say that. I'm dumb when it comes to political stuff so i don't know enough to make a judgement about that. But I do know Trump is not God.

or

"In reaction to the canceled summit, Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, the top Democrat on the committee, admonished the Trump administration for a "lack of deep preparation.""
So no one's criticising Trump for trying, they're criticising the ham fisted, unprepared nature of the trying. Gosh nuance and accuracy are hard, aren't they?

Who cares what happened. Different world, different time. We're in the 21st century now and technology has many things different in this world.
But it's so much easier to view all this stuff through a Cold War dichotomous goodies vs. baddies prism! Otherwise you have to learn about *gasp* issues!

They always live in the past. Always fearing some historical tragedy to say 'this is what's going to happen if 'X'". It's crazy. The gun debate is the same way. "Look what happened to the Jews!!!!!!!!!" It will happen again!

It's just insane paranoia induced from RW media outlets.

It still might happen. I'm still sceptical because Trump is not trustworthy, but who knows? Politics is a strange world.

Except, of course, when inconvenient. Point out any of the similarities between modern America and 1930s European nationalism and get a big "lolwhatevs".

Nixon arrives in China for talks - Feb 21, 1972 - HISTORY.com

Want to try again.
Richard Nixon's 1972 visit to China - Wikipedia
Early in his first term, Nixon, through his National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger, sent subtle overtures hinting at warmer relations to the PRC government. After a series of these overtures by both countries, Kissinger flew on secret diplomatic missions to Beijing in 1971, where he met with Premier Zhou Enlai. On July 15, 1971, the President shocked the world by announcing on live television that he would visit the PRC the following year.

Furthermore, Nixon did not threaten Zhou with destruction prior to the meeting.
Furthermore, Nixon did not personally attack Zhou in the months before the trip.
Furthermore, Nixon did not go to China to make any demands.

So you are saying that Nixon did everything wrong? How did he ever make such a great deal?

After North Korea triumph Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, not Obama

FOXNEWS

At the conclusion of the day-long summit between North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in Friday, one thing was clear: the meeting would never have taken place if not for President Trump. And for this achievement, President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

It’s true that we won’t really know for weeks or months whether the North-South Korean summit will bring about better relations between the two Koreas and result in Kim getting rid of his small arsenal of nuclear weapons.

We shouldn’t naively believe any promises Kim makes without verifiable proof, because he has a history of lying. His promises may last as long as a snowman in August.

But President Trump’s tough stance against a nuclear North Korea and his success in winning approval of international economic sanctions against the North at the United Nations that have crippled the country’s economy clearly succeeded beyond expectations in pushing Kim to the negotiating table.

And President Trump’s willingness to hold an unprecedented summit with Kim in coming weeks gave the dictator the incentive to recently announce he was halting nuclear weapons testing, closing an underground test site, and ending tests of long-range missiles.

In 2009, President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for… um … for ... well, for giving good speeches and having big plans for making the world a more peaceful place.

CNN

(CNN)Any way you cut it, President Donald Trump is entitled to significant credit for Friday's historic opening between the two Koreas.

Whether he deserves as much as he's claiming or whether he's wise to bullishly declare a new era of denuclearized peace on the peninsula seems much more doubtful.

Still, the summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in keeps alive the possibility of a legacy win for Trump that would rank as one of the top presidential achievements since World War II.

Maybe he should get the US to stop dropping 30,000 bombs in the ME. The rest of the World knows what the US foreign policy is doing. I doubt Trump will get the Nobel Peace prize as long as the US is the beating its stick over the heads of the ME.

Good deal???? The Chinese peg the Yuan to the dollar 6 to 1 and destroy all our factories with slave labor. It's a lot cheaper than invasion and you make a profit while doing it.

You do realize that is a self limiting strategy, don't you? Many developing countries will keep their wages as low as they can for as long as they can. It can't go on forever.
