Do you think dictators are more rational than other folks? Or that dictators make wiser decisions than the masses?
I don't blame democracy for this mess. I think that's a way of avoiding the real fact of the matter which, as I see it, is human nature. As Stephen Hawkings said, we're very likely to do ourselves in by greed and stupidity. Greed and stupidity are intrinsic to us, and no system of government is going to change that.
That would depend on the dictators, just like whether or not I think democratically elected leaders are more rational than other folks would depend on said leaders.
I think the biggest issue would lie in picking the dictator (through specific channels, not the people themselves) who could be relied on to work toward the interests of the people. That's what would decide whether the dictators that would end up in power were rational folks or not.
That's a fair point, but I think democracy is at least partially to blame here for enabling the bigoted, ignorant, and blindly hateful to vote and giving their opinions equal weight to those of the more educated and tolerant. In its essence, democracy seems to me to be an appeal to the masses, so how beneficial it is rests on how reasonable and educated the masses are.
Given that he's the president now, I think he may well be on his way to obtaining that status.

People on both sides were making predictions with unwarranted certainty.
The lead continually shifted back & forth.
Even now, the popular vote is extremely close.
But no matter how unsupported the predictions, some were going to be correct.

Satan is always happy that we do not choose God to be commander-in-chief if indeed satan is a real thing with emotions....which I doubt. If Hillary won, Satan would be happy. If Bernie won (my choice) Satan would be happy. I guess Satan should be happy until the people of Earth learn to be free. You know, without the need to be told what we will do and what we won't do.
