Educating Illegal Immigrants

I really don't like the fact that many cities throughout the nation are being over-run by them.
Overrun? That's a bit dramatic, don't ya think? They're people and should be treated with respect and dignity, no matter where they were born. Talking about them as if they were some sort of infestation, is not treating them with respect and dignity, imo.

I know of some jobs I would do, and several other Americans would do, that pay decent wages that are taken by Illegal Immigrants.

Surely you have the same opportunities as the immigrants to apply for a job ?

This is actually incorrect. I just came back from a court hearing where my wifes parents and her 2 sisters and little brother (who are all born here and the parents have been here for over twenty years) are all in deportation mode. Long story but I was floored when I heard the hearing. They have never committed a crime in their life, payed taxes, have a business, etc. Just made no sense to me. Last words of the judge were"
"It think having read and observed your case that your family is more then capable of surving in Mexico and it would not be any burden to make that change". They appealed and it's on it's way to Washington.

I dont buy this one bit. My uncle is a business owner (construction) and has offered jobs to Americans who only last a couple months or want more pay. On the other hand, illegal immigrants were happy with 19hr and have been with him for over 15 years.

I'm very sorry to hear your family is dealing with that. I hope the case goes in their favor. Is it too late for them to apply for citizenship?

That, I'm not sure of. Just because a parent has a child here, doesn't mean that the parent cannot be deported, as far as I know.

At this point yes. They are filing for some other type of application that is all lawyer talk. But the appeal is looking good. They have been trying to become citizens for 15 years now.
Took me 8 years.
Who says it's easy?

I am saddened by that news. Twice sadened in fact - one for your personal circumstances and the other for the thinking behind our government's action.

Thanks everyone. I'd like to note that I have no qualms that our government makes it difficult for people from the outside to become citizens. I think they should make it difficult. In my wifes parents case I just couldn't see the justice in it.

In my opinion, if you're in the US, you're a citizen and should be expected to pay taxes like a citizen, get educated like a citizen, and be prosecuted for crimes like a citizen. The second an illegal gets anything at all from the government, he or she should be required to go through naturalization.

They are people, but people who cheat the system, steal, get jobs much easire because they can scream discrimination, and expect the natives to learn their language. I know of one Sam Goodys store that had to start putting CD cases in security boxes because the Mexicans would take the case of the CD they wanted, open it, find some cheaper CD, and replace it with the CD they want. They don't pay nearly as much taxes. And while some do, most of the do not speak English. When my mom worked as an ER check-in person, she would just say "Card" to them, since they knew very little English. Most of the time, they would pull out thier food stamp card first, she would say "No", until they finally got out thier insurance card. What really angers me, is the ones that do understand and speak English, but pretend not to.

And to set things straight, I have no respect for Americans that live that way.

Be careful this doesn't turn into something more then just a general statement.

And yet, if I wanted to emigrate to the states, I understand it would be hard for me to do so; would that mean that the illegal imigrant would have an easier time of becoming recognised as an American than I would?

Surely you have to present ID when registering for school? And along with that, proof of citizenship if you weren't born in the US?

An ID and SSN are easy to obtain.

Not in northeast Ohio. An illegal immigrant family with their lawyer demaned to have their children enrolled in our local public schools. They were.

So much for homeland security.:banghead3

I truly do not blame illegal immigrants from Mexico wanting to come to the United States to build a better life for themselves. But why should anyone go through immigration when they come into the U.S. if our southern boarder is wide open? Are we just trying to keep out people from Europe? It is not only Mexicans who are coming across that boarder. Anyone can.
