Here in Mississippi all the districts have not yet reported final counts. We require ID, and some people who forgot their ID may vote by affidavit up to 5 days later.

Is any seat with national importance still open?
I have been trying to determine that but am not sure. Its also unclear whether my vote has been counted, yet. I voted in a special election for one of the newer candidates, and I have not seen evidence of my vote being counted. I think my district hasn't reported in, yet.

I know what is meant by a 'projected' winner, but what is the difference from the 'apparent' winner?

Let the gridlock begin....
You’ve mistaken downward acceleration with forward momentum. Its not gridlock, its the parachute.

For himself of course, he “saved the Senate”.
There. fixed.

It was his play all along. He only campaigned where chances were high for a conservative win. That way he knew he could sit back afterward and say, “See? Wherever I campaigned, republicans won.”. “The few who failed were too stupid (or not fanatical enough in their support of me) to succeed. So their loss was not my fault.”

Strange result, Democrats sweep to power in the reps but Republicans advance in the senate.
Is this just due to the US gerrymander system?
At least now gutless republican rubber stampers will now be held to account.
Cheers

No, one cannot gerrymander Senate seats since they are statewide. One thing to keep in mind is that only roughly one third of the Senate runs in each two year election. This time twentythree Democrats sought reelection and only eight Republicans sought reelection. That made it very hard for Democrats to pick up the necessary seats to take over the Senate.

I think that's a good question. To me, "apparent" means that the person is so far ahead that she looks like a winner whereas "projected" means that a computer has computed a winner based on the data fed in.
