Enemy's enemies are your friends - jews and Christians, unlikely friendship

(By "friends" I here mean any kind of ally in religious terms.)

Taking into account history, should Jews and Christians be friends? Or Jews and muslims? Or Muslims and Christians?

Which one would make a most likely friendship?

Muslims got along well with Jews for centuries. Christians have persecuted Jews to say the least. The Qur'an describes Christians as being nearer to Muslims than Jews.

Jews and Christians at least recognize each other's religion. Nowadays both Christians and Jews see Islam as a kind of enemy. At the same time some Jews consider Muslims allies against the west (Christians?) and some Muslims also actually hold Jews in higher esteem in certain aspects compared to Christians.

The difference is European Zionism.

Have you seen these photos from the 1880s?

BONFILS PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE LATE 1800's - 1. These 57 pictures are from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Egypt. Collections of Bonfils pictures are available at several museums around the world. Bonfils' pictures may also be found on the open market at reasonable prices as their prints were quite usual and produced in large numbers.

Everyone should be friends with everyone else as far as practical.

Which one would make a most likely friendship?
I think it depends on the character and maturity of the person much more than their religious affiliation.

Muslims got along well with Jews for centuries.
That's debatable.

Christians have persecuted Jews to say the least.

True.

The Qur'an describes Christians as being nearer to Muslims than Jews.

What verses did you have in mind?

Jews and Christians at least recognize each other's religion. Nowadays both Christians and Jews see Islam as a kind of enemy.

Depends on the person. Islam often makes the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

At the same time some Jews consider Muslims allies against the west (Christians?) and some Muslims also actually hold Jews in higher esteem in certain aspects compared to Christians.

Once again it depends on the individual.

Depends on the person. Islam does often make the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

If not for Zionism and Hitler Arab Jews would still be living all over the Arab world. They prospered and contributed wherever they lived from Tripoli to Damascus to Manama.

Well Muslims were on average less hostile to Jews than Christians were including some periods of relative harmony. I'm not sure 'got along well' is entirely accurate.

I spent a lot of time in Jerusalem before the 1967 war. They got along quite well.

If we are generalising over centuries things look a bot different though.

Palestine was sleepy, apolitical and backwards for much of its history.

Not much happening during the Ottoman years.

The conflict really grew out of European Zionism and a refugee situation.

Even in 1492 Spanish Jews moved into Hebron without incident.

In the broader Empire, there were several pogroms though.

While the Ottoman millet system allowed minority communities a degree of self-rule, that doesn't always mean they were treated equally or in a non-punitive manner either.

Can you be specific?

There are periods where some politician wants the country to be Muslim or else Christian or Jewish or wants to outlaw one of them. That's true in a lot of countries today. What is different, today, is that there are a lot of secular governments. These benefit everyone, because all three religions have shown that they are at their most friendly and neighborly towards each other when the government is secular. When you pull out politics they get along well.

I see Christians as the odd group out because of the Trinity and mangod worship.

I would rather we all just be friends and stop killing each other, at least.
That what Islam intended for, just did not work as intended, just like Christianity, but there is 'long' way.

Jews, Christians and Muslim are like Eurasia, Eastasia and Oceania in 1984. "Friendship" changes with circumstances.

Feb 24, 2018 · God teaches us throughout the Quran that there are righteous Jews and Christians. As such there is no prohibition for Muslims to be friends with Jews, Christians or people of any other faith who are of good character.

Sultan invited and paid for Jews relocation from Spain in 1492.

The history of Jewish and Arab coexistence in the region is not always so smooth.

From Caliph Fatimid Al-Hakim's ultimatum in 1009 to the destruction of the Acre synagogue by Al Malik Al Ashraf in 1291 (part of the persecution which drove Jews TO Europe in the 13th century) and the destruction of the Nachmanides Synagogue in 1474. Expulsion from Safed in 1576; Muhammed Ibn Farkoh's tyranny in 1625, the pogrom in Safed in 1834, plus others.

Turkey has an interesting history.. In the run up to WW2 European Jewish artists, musicians, writers etc found sanctuary in Turkey.

There were Jewish communities all over the Arab world and around the Med Sea long before the birth of Christ. Rome had a Jewish community. There were Jews in Yemen and Afghanistan, Egypt and Libya. All that changed after European refugees migrated to Palestine. Who are you blaming?

They extended protection of Turkish citizenship and evacuated some Jews from France during the WW2. Even the Jews other than Turkish citizens.
