Entitled and owed

We Never Know

No Slack
Aret seems many think they are entitled and owed several things.

If you are one of the many, what do you think you are entitled to and/or are owed?

Why?

I don't do instagram so can't watch it.

Give some insight.

It's not Instagram but I'll fill you in.

Basically shows that wages have stagnated and the buying power of 1960 minimum wage, is no where near the level of even broaching $17.00 hourly currently (even accounting for dual incomes). That plus childcare costs have increased over 230% since 1990.

Showing that the average person today is significantly poorer than the previous generations.

It also shows how only 7% of American families today qualify as meeting "median" (middle class) income.

(The video is honestly short, 120 seconds or so. I'll see if I can drop a YouTube version, as I can't summarize as well as this brief blurb did.).

Oh I agree wages have lagged behind for many years. No arguement there.

However when I click your link, it comes up instagram, see screenshot pic

This isn't the same video, but it gives the same idea..

But yeah entitled. This is what I feel entitled too. A standard of living that is (equal to or) better then that of previous generations (isn't that most parents goals for their kids?). But we are no where near that.

Respect like many things is earned
At various times in school I've had teachers who started off the first class of the semester by saying something like, "As of right now, everyone in this class has an A+. Lets see how many of you can manage to maintain that to the end of the semester".

Of course, very few people did.

Point being, on meeting someone I think we're better off giving them the benefit of a doubt that they're someone worthy of respect unless or until they prove otherwise (and I think most of us do that).

Over and above that there's basic respect for people just based on the fact that they are people, and that they have a few basic rights and boundaries that they're entitled to by default, like; the fact that I'm in front of you in line at the grocery store means you don't get to cut in front of me, even if you're bigger and /or more aggressive than me. etc.

Did your parents work for what they had?

That doesn't really matter when it comes to buying power yesterday vs today.

Edited: If my parents collectively made 60k a year in 1990, it doesn't equate to 60k in 2020, it's closer to ~130k. For the same jobs, and same work.

Collectively it shows that we have several generations working just as hard as the previous, and getting significantly less in return.

True. Like I said I agree wages have stagnated.
But I would bet your parents worked for what they had.

Being entitled to something doesn't mean not worked for, or unearned... That's a recent political spin.

I (and anyone else who served) was entitled to medical benefits if injured during military service. I also had to work a minimum of 4 years to receive the "entitlement", ND seperate under honorable conditions. For example.

I think I have a coupon from Whataburger around here. If I get a Whataburger medium combo, I can get an extra small order of fries for 50¢ off. As long as the coupon is not expired and it's one of the participating locations, I feel I'm entitled to that.

I have never ate at "whataburger". However I tried backyard burgers in Memphis last week... Good food.
