Evolution is really about change over time, not just speciation. Speciation is only one thing in evolutionary theory.
So what's your problem with the GULOP again? That's not an adaptation but a mutation through infection, as you probably know. And we share exactly the same with chimps. Which proves that we share ancestry since the only way to get exactly the same is to share genetic ancestors.
