I've not actually been to that museum and in that i count my blessings.
Very few places on Earth can you see an original Lenoir.
I once had a later (1880s) engine that ran on the Lenoir
thermodynamic cycle. Alas, I had to sell it to raise some
money. (Real estate problems to solve during the depression.)

How much was scrap brass getting during the depression?

As a moderate democrat, I have been invited by some conservatives to just leave the country.

Frankly, I'm considering it. As the grandchild of two people born in what is now the republic of Ireland, I am eligible for Irish citizenship. Which means I'm eligible for EU citizenship. I'm going to fill out the paperwork and file for it.

Do I think Ireland or the EU are utopia? No. But what is happening in the US is appalling to me. To be clear, it is Trumpism that appalls me.

How about you? Have you considered bailing on this **** show?

I feel the same way. Republicans are turning America into a Fascist contender state. Denmark is my paternal ancestral home. Would like to move there, but it is expensive. Plus, the language! It is like speaking German with marbles in your mouth! Oy!

They have much help from Democrats.
Don't forget that Biden was the architect of Clinton's 1994
Crime Bill, which which greatly increased our prison population,
& enhanced civil forfeiture, ie, legalized theft of personal
property without due process.
Do you see Biden doing anything to reverse this?
I don't.

observe that the biggest problem for many is paying
too much attention to what news media present to us.
It's not reality...j

Those in the US who do not see the antipathy of the far right to those who are Other--other than white, other than native born, other than Christian, other than hetero--are just blind.

It's one thing to see & acknowledge it.
But it's unwise to let it consume one,
& become mired in tribal hostilities.

America is still a pretty great place despite our problems, IMHO. We're a long way off from it becoming politically unbearable for me. Nor am I sure where I'd go where it would be that much better. Perhaps Scandinavia? But that seems cold :fearful:.

I've thought about moving, but more for fun and to experience something new than out of exasperation with politics. I'd also consider changing states before changing countries.

If the news is correct being a big if at that, it appears England isn't much better off in its own right.
I'm grateful for the NHS and at least compared to the US, our voting system; our education system (it's terrible, but the US one is worse imo); our gun laws are better etc.

And how does one who does not want to wish to become mired in tribal hostilities respond to those who do? Those who rail against the Other--other than native born, other than Christian, other than English-speaking, other than white. This country is stinking full of it.

Find common ground with the other.
My friends range from commies to conservatives.
Hostility is easy to avoid if one sets one's mind to it.

Of course, there will be some people best avoided.

I suppose but at what price? It seems very restrictive and monitored now.
