I understand. I was in rural Missouri. I had an office on the main street in town. On one side of me was my Internet provider, a conservative named Brian, who couldn't attend the January 6th gathering with his wife, who was there. In the other direction was a Subway owned by my redneck neighbor at home as well, Rusty. One door down from there was the private postal service, whose owner I didn't know by name, but who always had Rush Limbaugh playing audibly when one would enter. I really didn't want to subsidize any of these businesses, but had little choice unless I wanted to spite myself. And I hated paying local taxes, most of which was supporting conservatives, since that's just about all there was.

Yes, I could have moved to the suburbs of some large city and been amongst a greater mix of liberals, but I didn't want to live in the city or suburbs (I'm in a Mexican village now, where nothing is higher than three stories, and we walk almost everywhere), and I got that better mix here in Mexico anyway. Who expatriates to go live among the "illegals"? Liberals predominantly, people that have traveled and aren't afraid to be or live outside of America - people that not only don't mind people of color or foreign culture, but embrace it.

Once I was able to retire, America was a poor deal. The principle reasons to live there apart from being born there and having family there are for educational and economic opportunity, which doesn't matter once one has graduated and retired. America's was a better economy for earning than this one, but this is a better economy for spending. Here's where we had dinner last night, a Thai restaurant with outdoor seating walking distance from home. These prices are in pesos (don't let the dollar signs mislead you). There are about 21 pesos in a US dollar, so, the most expensive dish here is about $7 USD. Including appetizer, wine, and a generous tip, we were out of there for under $30 USD. The same meal in the States is probably over $100 now. I'm not there much, so can't guess the prices too well anymore, but I took my mother and a friend of hers to Red Lobster in the US about twelve years ago, and it was $125 USD:

This is why I say that I left America because of America, but am here to stay in Mexico because of Mexico, and America has degenerated further since we left, and is poised to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. Get ready for the pro-abortion protests a la BLM, and the reaction to that. I expect the American electorate to give some or all of the government back to the Republicans, which will accelerate the demise. Because of so many people like your neighbors living there, I would not be surprised if Trump were the next president. Who wants to live there for that? We have access to the best of American material and cultural amenities thanks to amenities like Amazon, Costco, and satellite TV, and access to much natural beauty and good weather where we live, so what's the appeal of American life to a retired liberal?

Good luck finding the right choice for you.

Sounds really nice, especially if you know Spanish. Did the Supreme Court rule on Roe? I stopped listening a few days ago. If Trump or anyone like him wins, I am not sure what to do. Thanks for the regards!

Such a disconnect between Jesus' teachings and fundamentalist/evangelical views. It's like they like the Old Testament law better than New Testament grace. Right wing Christianity has become about belief, heaven and political power. Ugh. Glad to have left that religion in the dust, although I am getting interested in progressive Christianity again. Not to convert, but to have more knowledge and affinity for it.
He is an odd fellow....everything in reality boils down to
what is right & true...or wrong & evil. There is no doubt
or middle ground. Compromise is capitulation....wrong.

I don't have truth...just shades of gray.
His & my weltanschauungen are very different.

Nice word...
Black and white "thinking" is easier I guess. It's nice to have a text that supposedly answers all of your questions. I don't think it matters if it's moral or good, which is why they don't act any more moral than anyone else and sometimes they are less moral.

Well, believing in morality isn't the same as practicing it.
And they've an elegant exculpation, ie, that they needn't
be perfect to get into heaven....believing is enuf cuz they're
forgiven. It's "qualified immunity" from adverse judgment, eh.
