Factors preventing people from conversion to Islam

Levite

Er...why? I mean, if you're going to believe in something else, you're not listening to Jewish teachings anymore, so...

We are forbidden from breaking the covenant: any other way but Judaism is prohibited to Jews, because that is our covenant. Obviously, if someone is so fargone as to convert to another religion, they will not care that they are breaking the covenant and will not care what they are doing to the Jewish people and their heritage. So I'm sure it doesn't bother them. But generally, I have noted that Jews who apostasize usually were raised very secularly, or received extremely insufficient Jewish education, and few meaningful Jewish experiences at home. So I usually say that when we suffer apostates, a great part of the fault lies with the rest of the Jewish People (mostly the parents of the apostates), for not educating these people sufficiently.

You know in Islam we have this saying from our leaders that "1 hour true thinking is better than 70000 years of mindless worshiping God". Is the forbidding law has been stated by Holy Moses or by his Inheritors? If they know they are in true way, why forbidding thinking?!!!

This has nothing to do with forbidding thinking. This has everything to do with the fact that Judaism is for Jews. Other religions are for non-Jews. It's not a measure of "rightness" or "truthfulness" or quality. Islam is a fine religion, that truly and excellently worships the One God, and I am sure good Muslims are rewarded every bit as much as good Jews are rewarded. But Islam is not for Jews. Judaism is for Jews. It's not a question of better or worse, just different.

The Jewish people are bound to our covenant. We cannot leave it, replace it, or alter it outside the ways in which we have been given to alter it.

I think the nonsensical and arbitrary rules, the homophobia, misogyny and other forms of bigotry, and the lack of respect for rights, freedom and equality all tend to turn a lot of people off from abrahamic religions (Islam, Judaism, Christianity) in general.

What are the main factors that makes non-muslims be hesitated about converting to Islam?

1) The complete reliance upon a conception of God and rejection of Atheism.

2) The strong influence of dogma and excessive attachment to tradiction.

3) The lack of adequate ways of questioning tradiction, revising dogma and dealing with lifestyles that aren't strictly tradictional.

I: Propaganda of western media about the stereotype of Muslims with radical-fundamental attitudes?

I don't think so, unless it is somehow included in what I mentioned above.

II: Difficulty of avoiding most of the forbidden habits like drinking alcohol and ...?

I don't think so either. I don't drink alcohol and I am somewhat fond of Islam's family ideals.

Then again, I can't very well support the lack of acceptance of homosexuality and transexuality that is apparently inherent to Islam.

Please share your thinking specially the ones who have converted to Islam or are willing to convert.:)

Not my case. I can't really consider a religion that depends on the idea of a Creator God.

Friends,

Personal understanding is that like the Bible the Koran too has been interpreted by people who were not enlightened and so as Lao Tsu had stated in Tao te Ching that words spoken are falsifications.
The crucial point of criticism of islam would be that the word [label] Allah is interchangeable with Brahman/Tao/etc. is the personal understanding but not accepted by followers of islam.
Once this is acceptable then the rest will follow as LIFE is common for all be they as forms or no-forms.

The number one factor for me is that I'm an atheist.

edit: Not to be glib but let's just say that I find all notions of the supernatural irrelevant.

I wont join any faith that propagates a belief that if I don't believe in something I am doom for hell. I do not have faith in something in which propagates a God that is all compassionate, yet is not likely to invite me to Heaven because I don't believe in Muhammad

I don't convert to Islam because I don't believe in Islam.

I turned away from Christianity because I don't believe in Christianity. Islam is just a re-defined version of Christianity. (Read Fred Donner.)

As much as I respect both Jesus and Mohammad.

Dear members,

All of you that are hesitated to convert to Islam, just because of eating with both hands, it's not a matter of issue, as we don't have such a rule in Islam that has forbidden us to eat food by two hands, especially in Shiite group, so don't worry!! you can use your both hands and any other part of your body you like!!:D

They say never eat with the left hand or have one shoe on the left foot as Satan has something similar.
