Of course if the cop was wrong then he deserves what he gets, I just hate when everyone sticks up for the other side just because they hate cops. Without police or societies would crumble, of course there is always going to be the bad cop, but that is human nature, there's good and bad in all groups of people, when a cop pulls a gun on you, you don't have to be that intelligent to know to stop in your tracks.

So far that I can tell, given there was a second autopsy and the info was released the public, Brown was defenseless and the fatal shot was to the head as he was some distance from the officer in a non-threatening position. Now no one is making Brown out to be a saint but his prior actions have no relevance on why the officer actually confronted him or the circumstances surrounding his death. Had the tables been turned....Brown would have been arrested, charged and arraigned by now.

Yeah, but of the (at least) 400 people police kill every year in the US, 99% are deemed "justifiable". IOW, no arrest, no charges, no trial. The cops don't even have a category called "unjustifiable" when they kill somebody on the job.

Moral of the story: if you want to kill people and never get in trouble for it, become a cop.

Yes I agree, and that maybe so, its just that everyone is crucifying the cop before they truly know the whole story, and that is all I was concerned with, lets wait and see the full story.

Nobody is "crucifying the cop". In all likelihood, he will face no negative consequences of any kind for his actions, except maybe feeling bad about them.

He is only human, of course it will affect him, probably for the rest of his life.:(

List of American police officers killed in the line of duty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Overview by year[edit]

2010[edit]

2010 was one of the deadliest years on record for US law enforcement in nearly two decades.[1]

2011[edit]

The FBI reported that in 2011, "72 law enforcement officers from around the nation were killed in the line of duty, while another 53 officers died in accidents while performing their duties."[2] NBC News reported 165 dead.[3]

2012[edit]

For 2012, the Officer Down Memorial Page records 120 deaths in the line of duty.[4] The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund counted 127 federal, state and local officers to have been killed in 2012.

Is this supposed to be a rebuttal to my post? I don't see the relevancy.

Sure, but he has the whole of cop culture patting him on the back and access to professional counselors to help him process those feelings. What has Darren Brown's family got? Nuthin. A dead son, that's what. And a funeral to pay for.

I don't know what happened in Ferguson. The media reports are all over the place.

But if Mr. Wilson did have reason to believe that a 6'4" 294# misbehaving "teen" was a threat then what I've seen in much of the reporting would qualify as crucifying him, in a metaphorical way.

Having read many news reports in the past where people had their lives ruined because drama sells better than nuance and accuracy I'm uninclined to form an opinion on this just yet.

What could possibly justify using lethal force against an unarmed man? Even if he did punch the cop in the face and then rush at him after he got out of his car, if we are saying this killing is justified we are saying it is OK for cops to use lethal force against unarmed people who are rushing them. It's going to be like how they just have to say you were "resisting" and it becomes OK to beat people, sometimes to death, now if they want to kill you they just have to say you rushed them.

How do you manage so much hatred?

If I had to take a wild guess, it would be that the shooting was triggered by fear and wholly unjustified. But I'd rather wait for this to be proven in a court of law before denigrating him and his colleagues en masse as vicious, out of control, fascists.

Could you cite your source?

Independent Autopsy Finds 'No Signs of Struggle' in Michael Brown Death - The Wire
Baden added that the bullets were fired from at least one or two feet away, and that there was "no evidence of a struggle." The only wounds apart from the bullet wounds were abrasions on Brown's face, attributed to him falling down after the shots to his head.

Michael Brown was shot 6 times by Ferguson officer, preliminary autopsy shows - Nation - The Boston Globe
The bullets did not appear to have been shot from very close range because no gunshot powder was present on his body. However, that determination could change if it turns out that there is gunshot residue on Brown’s clothing, to which Baden did not have access.

I will concede that since they didn't have access to the clothing determining GSR may still be an open question. Maybe they were basing that on the bullet stippling.

That's true for anyone who dies, good or bad.

Seriously, do you expect to be able to kill somebody and nobody is gonna have a problem with that? It's not so terrible a fate compared to being on the other end of the gun, or killing someone as a civilian.

You'll be waiting for a while then. 99% of the time cops who kill don't see the inside of a courtroom. That's one of those awkward real statistics, not a rhetorical device.

Edit: And some of my animosity toward police probably has to do with two friends of mine being beaten black and blue by a whole gang of them in my living room for no good reason twenty years ago, as well as witnessing police brutality on a homeless man around the same time.

A friend of mine who lives in America used to be a cop. He got out because his moral conscience is pretty fine tuned. But when we were speaking about the subject he, basically, said that the cop would never see the inside of a court room. "Not over a black guy, anyway," he added, dejectedly.
