1.) As Muslims we have our own Hijri calendar, we must reject gregorian calendar because it is not from Islam. The gregorian calendar was made by Pope Gregory (a pagan worshipper). According to our hijri calendar the new year actually begins on the first of Muharram.

2.) On such a day majority of people listen to music, drink alcohol and commit adultery.
This is a great evil and a Muslim should stay away from such things.

3.) It is against the spirit of Islam.

4.) What exactly is there to celebrate?
Thousands of Muslims are dying and starving to death in Africa, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq...etc and you want to enjoy your life?

I empathize with your concerns about alcohol, but people celebrate New Year's Eve (December 31 - January 1) in many different ways and some without alcohol like me. It is not my New Year, but I can find appropriate fellowship. My New Year as a Baha'i is March 21. I also celebrate with friends the Winter solstice on December 21.

What you say of the west hasn't been my experience at all. It doesn't represent what me, my family, or my friends do. Every corner of the west is filled with vastly different cultures that are starkly different from each other. Instead of casting judgement, maybe you should truly seek to understand first. You come across to me as someone consumed in hatred and anger, and that can't be healthy...
