I seriously doubt that a person legally authorized to carry a handgun concealed
could have stopped the shooter unless the legally armed person were pretty cool, calm,
and collected and close enough to take the mad man out with a kill shot.
I don't carry a gun any longer but I might considering carrying again in light of
this issue.
I am very skilled in defensive shooting given my background.

I am trying to find the words but I know it won't change anything. It does bother me that this thread is already starting to try and politicise it even as they are still pulling bodies out. It's really very twisted that indifference feels like such a natural response given that anger is diffused into political deadlock. It's the state we are in. That sucks.

It's so easy to focus on an an object than focus on the person that commits a
horrific act.
We don't lobby to ban cars when drunk drivers kill innocents, sometimes killing
an entire family.
The gun, by itself, can do NOTHING.
It takes an evil, sick, person to use it to commit horrific crimes.
This Orlando shooting was clearly a crime against LGBT people.
Was the shooter a Muslim? A Christian?
Does that matter?
#ell YES it matters.
It matters as to motive.
It matters not at all to the dead.

I don't think people are necessarily indifferent, just emotionally numbed by the routine. And of course it's going to be politicized when the tragedy is centered atop two hot-button issues: terrorism and gun rights.

What I find disgusting is Hillary's tweet in Mexican "My thoughts are with those affected by this horrific act" - never missing what she thinks is another political opportunity and her stupid open borders crap, what a horrible act itself is her horrible campaign to cover up problems she helped create. The FBI ALREADY had this guy under investigation - now the same Obama "Justice" Department will try to cover this up and say it is not an Islamic terrorist attack - and think of it, targetting homosexuals and especially homosexual men. A firearm is a force multiplier. One person with no weapons could hurt or kill a few people, but you don't get 103 people killed or hospitalized in a fistfight or even a knife attack.

This is why I don't much pay attention to the initial news reports about events like this.
I find people's reactions to them much more interesting and educational than the actual news, until there has been time to separate the facts from the dross.
