Florida Mass Murder

Seems Omar was on a terrorist watch list. Somebody didn't do their job.
Watch lists are huge, & include many peaceful people.
So I imagine it's a daunting task for authorities to determine
who is a real threat, & worthy of surveillance, & who is just
some unlucky dude with the wrong name or a neighbor
with a wagging tongue.

50 people dead, 52 injured, death toll may still rise. It's a sad day in America, I am sickened. Its not about a "hate crime" or "gun control", we are at war folks and its not just men and woman in uniform over seas, but we civilians here at home are also on the front lines. Radical Islamists want us all dead, whether gay or straight, white or black, republican or democrat, etc., our very way of life in the West is an abomination to them. And this horror is going to continue until either we destroy them or they destroy us.

Any clues if the assailant is Muslim?

Only suggestions. I don't know whether to take them seriously. Latest news reports suggest this may be a (massive) hate crime rather than an act of terrorism.

The authorities and the media have been in contact with the father of the perpetrator who said that his son was enraged at the sight of seeing gay people kissing. His ex-wife said he was abusive and "not a stable" person.

This was my thought, too. Given the precise location and demographic. Again, all speculation.

He was Muslim and this was an act of Jihad. Makes me sick! If he was on a terrorist watch list, he should have been locked up.

Can't lock up a person for suspicion of being a terrorist.
U.S. Constitution don'cha'know?
Sadly I see all Muslims as potential terrorists.
Same with radical white Christian fundamentalists that believe people of color are less
than human.
I fear that Muslims will take a bashing because of the act of one mentally ill
person.

1% of mass shootings occur in areas where guns are allowed. 99% happen in places where they are forbidden.

Where are guns forbidden:

All Bars
All Public Buildings
All Festivals, Carnivals, events.
Anywhere the owner of the building prohibits them, this can be random

Want to live? Stay home with your gun, and drink there.

Honestly, this problem is easily solved. If the laws are repealed that prohibit carry in these places (even with the CCW license) then the terrorists, and the murderers don't know where they can pick on the innocent. It's that simple.

All Public Buildings
Define "public" buildings...
I am not allowed to carry in the courthouse but I am allowed to carry in the treasurers office (separate building)

All Festivals, Carnivals, events.

True
Though it is not just the building, it is the whole property to include fields, parking lots, woods, etc.

except it is actually is not that simple

Remember a few posts back, where I said I prefer not to listen to "premature" media accounts?
This post illustrates why.

From the above link......
The gunman who opened fire at a gay nightclub in Florida early Sunday, shooting over 100 people, had called 911 moments before to pledge allegiance to the leader of ISIS, law enforcement sources told NBC News.

Shooter Omar Mateen, 29, appeared to be a follower of ISIS propaganda and referenced the Tsarnaev brothers, who carried out the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013, at the scene, sources said.

Omar Mateen's ex-wife identified him to the Washington Post as the man in this image from MySpace. MySpace
But as investigators try to determine the radicalization that apparently motivated Mateen to attack the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, his family believes he was pushed over the edge by pure hate against the LGBT community.
Various law enforcement officials have identified the shooter as Mateen, who was born in New York and lived in Port St. Lucie.....

Scare easily? Such a mentality is why I got to hear George Takei share his experience being detained in a US internment camp during WWII on a show the other day. Apparently, that was all his younger sister knew and she thought it was home.

It begs the question that had he called 911 and pledged loyalty to ISIS, why the hell weren't the police out looking for him? It's not like you can place a truly anonymous call anymore and not be seen by no fewer than dozens of cameras, especially if it's true he was being watched.

The true Muslims don't commit violence. Muhammad (peace be upon him) would never approve of killing homosexuals.

I live in the biggest samolian city in the world. It is more Somalis than the places where Somalis gather in Somalia.

Just google how much we have been culturally enriched here in Minneapolis . More are on their way

I QUIT carrying a gun a year ago.
I STARTED carrying a gun today!
No one is going to hurt an innocent if I can stop it and I CAN stop it
if given half an opportunity.
And I WILL.
Call me paranoid if you want.
Tell that to the folks in Florida.
Anyone that elects to carry a firearm should practice to the level of expert.
