Foods you never realized were tasty

As with anything else, there is good guac and bad guac.

Good guac = homemade/authentic/made from fresh ingredients, etc.

Bad guac = comes prepared in a jar.

Excuse my ignorance here but how in hell can you get gaucamole in a jar ?

I'm told I make excellent guacamole, though I don't eat it myself. It's so simple to make that I don't know why anybody would buy that slop in a jar. The main difficulty is in fending off busybodies who tell you to add mayonnaise or sour cream. Ignore such people.

Ravioli actually. My mom always insisted I would not like it, and never got it. My girlfriend let me try some of hers, and it was rather tasty.

Depends Upon My Mood..
Banana sandwich.Banana on (your favorite bread) with a little "miracle whip".

Oh and I agree about the guacamole..YOu smush up the big avocados(not the havos the big giant shiny kind)..and chop up garlic and roma tomatos and onions and squeeze a little line in there and cilantro..and some salt and stir it around and let it chill in the fridge for an hour or two and its awesome..

Also the best (can be put on eggs and just eaten with a spoon) pico ..is 5 or 6 roma tomatos (chopped) 3 or four jalepinias(fresh(raw) chopped and de-seeded) a bunch of chopped cilantro (chopped about 4 or 5 tablespoons)..and a pinch or two or salt(tiny squeeze of lime)...Stick that in a blender and blend "gently"..(food processor better)..refridgerate or eat warm.

Its very simple and delicious. You can eat it with a chip or as I said goes great on an egg.

Simple and delicious!

Love

Hawaiian-style pizza, with pineapple and Canadian bacon.

Also, anchovies on pizza, though not on the Hawaiian style.

I'm into Japanese food.
The Japanese like to sprinkle some seasonings on the part of the rice left over at the end of the meal that they didn't eat with the main dish.
My favorite is rice with black sesame seeds. Actually, sprinkling black sesame seeds on anything makes it taste good...

Nice and earthy like a carrot but sweet. I throw a few on the grill with whole peppers, an onion, carrots, tomatoes and a couple chicken breasts and it's a whole meal.

Churros,a Spanish type doughnut with a cup of chocolate sauce,i had them in Spain last year and they are delicious and easy to make, they are Torpedo shaped so they are easy to dip in the sauce

No,what are they

They are the almost the same batter as churros but thinner and made into a crisp pancake (cooked in butter naturally )then served with cinnamon and orange sauce and ice-cream and more cinnamon. You can only eat them once every 10 years without having a cardiac episode but they are worth the wait .

Honest
I never liked pickled beets as a kid, but now find them delicious!

And when I lived in Germany, they had two different types of pizzas that were great:

1) Flammekuchen - this is an Alscacian ultra-thin, yet chewy crust pizza with creme fraiche (a soft spreadable cheese, somewhere between the flavor of American cream cheese and plain yogurt), lardons (the meaty part of bacon - I can't find these here in the U.S., but frying thick cut bacon in a pan and then cutting them into little peices works), and loads of thinly sliced sauteed onions. Roll out your crust, put on the creme fraiche along with a little bit of nutmeg, then the onion and bacon and cook in a very hot oven (500 deg) until it's all crispy, yummy, and gooey.

2) Salmon pizza from the Twelve Apostles restaurant in Berlin. I've never seen this anywhere else and had to try it because it sounded so weird. Boy was I shocked at how good it was though! Thin crust pizza with very mellow tomato sauce, then little pieces of salmon on top along with dollops of creme fraiche, once it was done cooking, they topped it with an extra large handful of fresh rocket salad.

If you ever make it to Los Angeles I'll take you to Olvera Street where we can get some freshly made churros, maybe some polvorones de canele cookies and Mexican coffee. Not to mention flan, orchata, and tres leches cakes.

<insert "sugar my own churro" joke here>

If you ever make it to Cork I will give you the number of a nice Mexican restaurant, :pand when I say nice I mean only, something about watching people drink pitchers of sangria outside in the rain makes my heart swell with pride, and my eyebrow raise with derision. Stupid nicotine junkies.

Not a big fan of Sangria myself.

We did make it to Cork on my b-day last year (we avoided Dublin 'cause it was St. Patrick's Day)... And, oddly enough, we actually went to a Mexican restaurant.

It had these borderline offensive Mexican charicatures on the walls and watery salsa (well, not on the walls). The margaritas were nothing special but it was alcohol so it all worked out. I will say the food was better than the one Mexican place we hesitantly tried in London. Ay dios mio!
;)

I had a job offer in Cork and we actually talked about moving there... :(

That's the one, it used to be nicer when the chef was Catalan, now the chef is Polish the food is less spanishy, (they stopped serving sour cream and now serve creme fraiche instead  and the salsa is tomato puree and I don't eat guacamole but they bulk it up with banana and even I know that ain't right, the salsa verde is still nice. I don't drink alcohol so can't comment on the drinks other than to say the pitchers look greasy.

You did the right thing avoiding Dublin whatever the day, my wee brother is up there now for a Mettalica concert,no doubt being force fed heroin.

Wait... banana???? I love avocados, but bananas shouldn't be anywhere near them.
I don't drink alcohol...
Obligatory "and you're Irish!?!?" joke. :p
I'm a wuss when it comes to alcohol- red wine once in a blue moon.

Oh yeah, as for the OP, I used to dislike okra. Oh wait, I still find it repulsive. Hmmm...
