NAACP 'snookered' over video of former USDA employee
By the CNN Wire Staff

Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- The NAACP has retracted its original statement condemning comments made by a former Agriculture Department official who resigned after a video clip surfaced of her discussing a white farmer.

The NAACP said in a statement Tuesday that it was "snookered by Fox News" and conservative website publisher Andrew Breitbart.

"Having reviewed the full tape by Shirley Sherrod, who is the woman who was fired by the Department of Agriculture, and most importantly heard the testimony of the white farmers mentioned in this story, we now believe that the organization that edited the documents did so with the intention of deceiving millions of Americans," the statement from NAACP President Benjamin Jealous said.

Jealous later posted on his Twitter account that he "Spoke to Ms. Sherrod earlier today and personally apologized. Plan to meet with her face-to-face the next time I'm in Georgia."

The organization also urged Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to reconsider Sherrod's resignation from her post as the department's director of rural development for Georgia.

NAACP.org has posted what it says is the full video. Watch it here.

This is becoming a habit with the Obama crowd -- bow to Fox's lies and distortions.

Done here.
I think we all knew what kind of person Obama was when we saw how he treated Jeremiah Wright.
Now we know, if there was any doubt, what kind of people Andrew Breitbart and Tom Vilsack are, too.

Ms. Sherrod seems like a conscientious person and a good employee. I hope she finds a decent employer.

Hi Auto,

No, they just lied about her, and someone else fired her because they believed them.

Who, specifically, lied about her on Fox?

And if Fox lies all the time, why at first did the Obama administration and the NAACP believe Fox in the first place?

Andrew Brietbart fake/edited a video to create a lie about what she said. This video was shown on FOX news. I'm sorry, I don't know who the producer was.

Do you deny any of this? Do you want me to link you to the news stories?

I'd be guessing, but I speculate they believed FOX only because it was a video. They didn't suspect they would stoop so low as to edit a video to create a lie.

Vilsack, White House apologize to former USDA official

By the CNN Wire Staff
July 21, 2010 5:07 p.m. EDT

Washington (CNN) -- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Wednesday he apologized to Shirley Sherrod for forcing her to resign from her government job in Georgia based on incomplete and misleading reports of a speech she gave.
Vilsack told reporters that he alone made the decision regarding Sherrod, with no White House involvement.
He spoke to Sherrod earlier Wednesday and said he asked for her forgiveness, which she gave. Vilsack also said he offered Sherrod another job in the department, and she was taking a few days to think about it.
"She's a good woman -- she's been put through hell," Vilsack said of Sherrod. He admitted acting too hastily in the case, acknowledging that he was focused on reversing a history of racial discrimination at the agriculture department.

If nothing else, I give them points for publicly apologizing and admitting they screwed up by the numbers.

Exactly. They should know better, and certainly DO know better, than to believe anything on Fox. They just lack the balls or the integrity to stand up to Fox. Can you say Jeremiah Wright? ACORN? Van Jones?

If I am not mistaken, I thought she was asked to resign before any news outlet aired the edited footage.

I know they told her she (the tape being played) was going to be on Glenn Beck's show (which it wasn't, it was the day after). And I don't recall Bietbart or Beck calling for her firing (I am not sure if O'Reilly did or not).

I know, doesn't this show the thin skin of the left? I mean, so Fox is going after you, so what? It's just one channel.

I give them no points for this fiasco.

TUESDAY MORNING: Oh yeah! Score! We pearled that racist negro's harbor, man! Yes we did! We rule! We da man!

TUESDAY EVENING: Dude, we never heard nothin about any of this. We are, like, so surprised that Tom Vilsack would do something like this. We don't hardly even know Tom Vilsack. We were, like, at a meeting one time and he was, like, there, ya know, but we never actually, like, met him or anything, ya know?

Hi Smoke,

I agree, and agreeing with you is a very strange experience for me.

It's good to see we can come together on some issues (and I also feel the strangeness).

My theory is that the Obama administration is relying on polling data too much and that is what influenced this decision. The polls show whites leaving Obama and then it this edited tape comes out and it looks like the Obama administration has racist bureaucrats (even though Ms. Sherrod isn't a racist) in its midst.

So, they jumped the gun and now are (correctly) backtracking.

This points out that many who enjoy saying that Fox lies, really don't believe it. To call Fox liars is just an insult & also a way of fostering
plausible disbelievability in the news they report. Lefties really take Fox seriously, but they hate it....it really sticks in their craw.

Oh, please. You know they lie. But that's not even the point. The point is that the Democrats run like frightened bunnies. You've got an undersecretary calling Sherrod and insisting that they have to have her resignation RIGHT NOW before Glenn Beck comes on. How ******* degrading is that? How cowardly, how dishonest.

I don't know any such thing. I don't watch/listen to them.

But that's not even the point.

Oh, but it is. Calling them liars is a form of spin on yet another Obamacle. (That's an Obama debacle).

Clearly, we were oversold on Obama's hyperintelligence.

You are mistaken, as usual.

FOX lied again and stated this, but it is also not true.

I know they told her she (the tape being played) was going to be on Glenn Beck's show (which it wasn't, it was the day after).
Thank you. O.K., the big fat liar was Glenn Beck.
And I don't recall Bietbart or Beck calling for her firing (I am not sure if O'Reilly did or not).
They slandered her, Joe.

Say I show your boss fake evidence of you embezzling from the company. Do I really have to ask him to fire you to make it unacceptable behavior in your book?
