yah, do you think they think the same way ones pet does, neither know what words are?

Gee I hope I my words are not twisted by wanna be know it alls and them say I consider a baby no more valuable then a kitty cat or what ever they may do, :D

So why do you think babies are puppies? :D

I disagree. IMHO, to be an atheist, one must actually understand what the concept of a deity is to begin with, and then willingly reject the that a deity exists. I have never heard a baby pop out of the womb saying that "there is no god." Likewise, I have never heard a baby say that "there is a god" either. That leads me to believe that infants are neither theists nor atheists, because they do not have the ability to accept or reject the concept of a deity.

What label do we use then for people who have never come across the concept of gods?

Why should anything have a label?

Labels can be useful to quickly identify something about something.

Why do you think that it would be useful (or needful, or preferable) to have a label to identify that specific feature in people?

Since we have labels for a lot of things, why not that one?
Did there have to be a philosophical debate explaining the justification behind using labels before we started doing so?

This is sound reasoning for your perspective, but I see another.
A person who was born not believing in gods, & continued all his life not believing in gods certainly passed a phase in life where he became aware he didn't believe, & gave thought to not believing. The when & how long of this phase would vary from heathen to heathen, & perhaps be indeterminate. Moreover, some of us could've been predisposed to be atheists because of hardwiring &/or cultural environment. (This is almost analogous to a Jewish infant being a Jew.) So I've always been an atheist, & always had such an orientation. It's not the "truth", but it's true enuf.

Btw, I wouldn't say all babies are atheists.
(It's not something I discuss with them.)

Okay, this is the most interesting and original argument yet for lacking belief: anatta-theism. I like it.

I think you are shooting in the foot any sort of point you were trying to make.

People actually care whether atheists lack a belief in invisible gods or deny their existence, what is it about atheists that fascinates everyone so much?

Well because the existence and proliferation of atheism is challenging to people of faith. Although atheism is not new, the freedom to be openly atheist is.

Atheists demonstrate that all of the social attributes previously deeigned to have a divine origin, such as values, ethics, morality, meaning and purpose can all be found and explored without reference to a god. A world in which the divine is redundant.

Society is changing, change is scary and fascinating.
