I love your dedication :)......I am a lazy fool who first thought of getting up at 4am in the dhanurmAsam time but never was able to accomplish that and ended up waking at 9 or 10 am everyday of auspicious month .....Props to you

Very nice to hear you say that Kalyanji :D. I tried to do nirjala vrata (fasting whole day without water), but during 8pm I started to feel little dizzy so I took a little caranamrta, and some milk prasad I offered. So had to break the fast with grains this morning. Surprising thing was I went to sleep at 9 (felt quite sleepy), but woke up at 1am and so was able to spend the rest of the night doing kirtan and japa, which I think was the Lord's mercy. Normally I suck at waking up early, but this day was special, thought I could at least make an effort.

I have done that once, the nirjala ekAdasi, without water and without any sort of liquids, its very difficult but one of an experience to remember, the next morning when I drank water, the water was SO....sweet, I am not kidding......Water tasted so sweet next day, I was amazed......It also increases our spiritual levels.......There is definitely a metaphysical aspect to fasting..........Our bodies are made up of 5 elements and what we take as food is also made of these 5 elements....The nature of Prakriti is to impart ignorance, so when we keep away the food items, you could feel closer to an energy which is nArAyaNa himself inside us as antaryami in our hearts

I was wondering do followers of Gaudiya Vaishnavism accept other incarnations of Lord Krishna? While I am not a follower of Lord Krishna as such (I come from a more shakti tradition) I have a great fondness for Ram devpir and always say a prayer to him at our local temple.

Not a Gaudiya, but who is Ram Devpir?

I must admit, I also do not recognize Ram devpir sorry. He wasn't mentioned by any of our previous acharyas.

I completely agree. When we fast for Sri Narayan, He himself rewards that sacrifice with spiritual realization. The results of nirjala fasting of Ekadashi are something which simply cannot be described in words. That is why Sri Krsna in Gita says: "Janma karma ca me divyam..." meaning "My Birth(day) and Actions are all divine, one who knows this in reality does not return to the material world". And Sri Ekadashi is Sri Hari Vasare (the day in which Sri Hari Himself resides!).

.....Well let me put it another way , I think they find me , and want to come home for a nice bath and pushpanjali , .....this day I found a little Acharya , I was not entirely sure who it was He is only small but bore the Vaisnava markings , So l took him home and bathed him , But still I wanted to know who he was that afternoon I went to Temple to do my seva so I wrapped him nicely in clean cloth and put him in a special little bag with my mala , ...It was this day , Ramanujacharya's dissaperance and although we do not realy celebrate it , in the temple that evening the story of the life of Ramanuja Ji was told , .... as soon as the story was begining to be narated I suddenly realised Who this little Deity was , it was Ramanujacharya ,
Ratikalaji, this is very pleasing to read. Something very very similar happened recently - just a month ago. A devotee was attending AnDaL kalyANam at the Temple. After the kalyANam when people dispersed to get prasAd, this being had this sudden buddhi to go near the newly wed AnDaL and Balaji and sing "KrushNA KRushNA mukundA janArdanA kRushNa govinda nArAyaNa Shri Hari...~" with jhaanz (kartals) very quietly. This bhajan was playing in dhun-form on the UDupi KRshNa website years ago. A few minutes later, in the NaTarAj temple in the premises, which also has a very sweet picture of NArAyaNa, there on a dusty table on the side was a dusty old picture of UDUpi KRushNa! With tiny ovals on the bottom of pics of MadhvAchArya and RAghavendra Swami. There was a plastic bag of fruit and flowers. Now this Temple has no traces of Madhva sampradaya anywhere and that dusty table was never seen in the Nataraj Temple before.

The devotee looked around, asked people "did someone come here ?",,, waited long enough. No one came to collect these. So, took the Udupi KAnhA and the fruit bag home. At home went to a Madhva website to discover it was Madhva Navami! The acharya's appearance day.

(Udupi KRshNa = little KRushNa holding ravi (to churn butter) and rope (to churn butter) ---- this is the form KRshNa showed Devaki when she asked Him to show His bAla leelA ----- RukmiNi saw it --- got a mUrti made, ---Arjun buried it in Her garden after KRshNa's disappearance --- a sailor brought it to the shore of UDupi --- MadhvAchArya got sanket in the heart KRshNa was calling -- went to the shore and rest is history]

[ The acharya keeps a vatsal tab on the jiva (So does Hanuman on KRshNa's behest. Madhva is Hanuman) ]

This way -- 2 vigraha and 2 pictures that were just "found" at oddest places and taken home. Have you ever found God in a parking lot? ...

Jai Jai I like this story , ....it is amazing how these things Happen ,...when the Supreme Lord wants our seva he appears , ....now just the other day As l told this story about Ramanujacharya , l remembered fondly that there was a time when I kept finding Deities , ...one day on my Birthday we took a day off and went out to visit a town in the country , ...this day we were just relaxing and wandering arround , ....so passing an antique shop we went to look inside sometimes I enjoy to look at these things thinking that I might find something special , but this day I was feeling a little bored looking at just material stuff , ..but l had a realy strong feeling that I should look here , ...well right in the back of the shop there was a glass case and , .....Oh ...there was a very old Visnu , and the most beautifull Gomata with little Calf and a small Krsna and Radha , ..which fix at the bottom and can be moved , ..these are very small the Group reminds me very much of this lila , ...

12d.jpg

even thought they were a little expencive , because it was my birthday my husband bought them for me , ....I love them very much , ....but I have had to stop looking in antique shops because l am running out of Shrine space , ...l realy dont like to see them neglected on a shelf or looked at as relics or colectables , ...so I have to bring them home ,

so when I wrote that post I was feeling just a little nostalgic for that time , ...but by this saturday morning I had forgotten about it and whilst in town a local antique shop which I do not realy go to look in very often at all , said closing down on the window so I thought I will look just incase there is a usefull bargain there again I got that feeling look here , look here , so I turned arround and there was little Gopal ji smiling at me and saying do you want butter , ...so of course l took him home , bathed him and spent saturday evening and sunday morning painting him and making him a little dress , he is very Shayma so he said he wanted to be decorated like Shamasundara

then I suppose he will want a flute , ....never a dul moment in this house , ...Ashram , ...

when he is finished I will post him as I think he will want to meet more devotees , .....[/QUOTE]

Who is Shyamasundara? Another name for Sri Krishna?

Yes Shyamasundara means:

Syama- One whose bodily color is that of a raincloud
sundara- One who is very beautiful (i.e that color is every beautiful).

Sri Krsna has many beautiful names, like Madhav (one whose beauty is sweeter than honey), Hari (one who takes way our distress and suffering) and Kesava (whose hair is beautiful and curly like kusha grass).

Ratikalaji, Waiting to see your new Murlimanohar. Are you going to make chandan marks on His face just like our dear GovindDev in Jaipur ? Is that GovindDev ji in post #391 ?

Or the destroyer of demon Keshi?
OR
The ArAdhya of (adored by, worshiped by) Ka and Isha

KRshNa , NArAyaNa, VishNu is
Keshava = The One Dearmost to and Adored by Ka == either BramhA or Lakshmi i.e. KamalA and Isha = Shiva.
Keshava = destroyer of Keshi the demon
Keshava = The One with thick dark long flowing curly beautiful hair

MAdhava = Shelter and Lord of Shri (LakshmI) = NArAyaNa i.e. Shri KRshNa, possessor of Shri (Everything that stands out, sparkles and glitters at all levels - spiritual, mental and material is Shri and is a spark of KRshNa's splendor , has its source in Shri KRshNa paramAtmA -- KRshNa explains to Arjuna that this is His VibhUti Yoga -- in Bh. Gita Chapter 10 titled "VibhUti Yoga " )
Shri is Lakshmi the Goddess of Fortune.
So
1. MAdhav is LakshmI patI, Shri patI
-- Lord and Shelter of Shri.
2. Madhav = spring season , Vasanta Rutu. In Bhagvat Gita Chapter 10 (Vibhuti yoga) KRshNa say "rutunAm kusumAkarah [aham]" - Among seasons I am the flowery spring.
So MAdhav = KrshNa and MAdhav = spring

He is KRshNa who is BhagavAn .
Why is Shri KRshNa BhagavAN ? Because He is shaDaishwarya sampanna [ shaDa = 6 , aishwarya = oppulences (will explain shortly) , sampanna = full of, possessing]

Ref. BhAgvat PurAN Canto 10 -
Definition of BhagavAn :
One who own/possesses 6 'bhaga' (oppulences) in infinite amounts. i.e. shaDaishwarya sampanna
Which six oppulences (bhaga) ?
1. Shri (Wealth - spiritual, pscychological and material)
2. kIrtI (fame)
3. shaktI (strength)
4. lAvaNya (beauty - inner-outer on all levels in all dimensions)
5. vairAgya (complete renunciation, completely detached from what living beings consider comforts and luxuries - despite being a very rich DwArakAdheesh having everything under the Sun in terms of wealth, relationships, love, power, fame, beauty.....)
6. dnyAna (jnana) (Knowledge - spiritual and worldly wisdom)

A song about Keshav MAdhav :

KeshavA, mAdhavA, tuzyA nAmAta re goDavA
(O Keshav, MAdhav, there is such sweetness in Your name)

tuzyA sArakhA tucha devA , tulA kuNAchA nAhi hevA
(There is no one like You, only You are like Yourself, no one comes even close. You do not envy anyone at all.)

WeLo-weLi sankaTAtuni tADisI mAdhavA
(O MAdhava, You come at the right time to save us from dangers, perils, troubles (sankaT)

[just like You came on GaruDa to rescue Gajendra the elephant - leg stuck in GrAha the crocodile's mouth]

-----

bhAvanAnchA tU bhukelA re murArI
(O MurArI (destroyer of the demon MUra) , You are hungry for the Love (bhAvanA) of the devotees towards You

[In Vraja You just act too cute and speak sweet gentle words in Your sweet voice and flutter Your eyes innocently which makes YashodA MaiyA and the neighbourhood Gopis forget the idea of scolding You for all the butter-mischief.
You touch the hearts of beings by Your Sat-chit-Ananda ways , Your unconditional Love, therefore You are the safest haven dear MukundA]

Beautiful. Amala Harinama amiya vilasa! So many meanings!! Krsna's names have hundreads of meanings!! In Chaitanya Charitamrta, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was able to draw 100 meanings from the "atma ramam ca muniyo" verse in Bhagavatam which is non-different from Sri Krsna Candra!

Be your own guru
While I am not a follower of Lord Krishna as such (I come from a more shakti tradition) I have a great fondness for Ram dev
pir and always say a prayer to him at our local temple.
I am from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Ram Dev ji (you know it, but others don't) is a folk deity/hero of Rajasthan and Gujarat, and the song "Khamma, khamma, khamma re, Ajmal ji ra kanwara" (I hail you, I hail you, I hail you, O son of Ajmal); Khamma, Khamma, Khamma re, Runichaji ra Dhaniya (I hail you, I hail you, I hail you, O husband of Runicha ji)) is very beautiful.

"Ram Dev is considered to be an incarnation of Vishnu. King Ajmal (Ajai Singh) married Queen Minaldevi, the daughter of Pamji Bhati of Chhahan Baru village. The childless king went to Dwaraka and pleaded with Krishna about his wish to have child like him. They had two sons, Viram dev and the younger Ram Dev. Ram Dev ji (1352 - 1385 AD) was born at 'Ramdeora' in Barmer district. Ram Dev ji was a Tanwar Rajput (Warrior Caste)." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramdev_Pir, with a little modification)

Also, there is a saying in Marwari (one of the Rajasthani dialects) that "every one who meets Ram Dev ji is crooked in some way or the other". Crooked not in the sense of evil, but incomplete, wanting, desirous, sorrowful, etc. And worshiping Ram Dev ji will remove the reason for it. There are many new songs, but not one old one from my childhood. The singer, a lady, used to live close to our house in Bikaner.
