Ghosts of Japanese Tsunami Victims Trying to Get to Destroyed Homes

I would be skeptical, even cynical about this, except...

Shortly after the tsunami I was composing music in my home studio in Australia, in the January after the tsunami, and an extraordinary and strange thing happened. Suddenly, out of the blue, I was hearing shrieking from what sounded like hundreds of people. After a minute or two I got vague visual impressions of people floating in the space around me. Then I felt the presence of a dear friend I have known since early teenage, who I had not seen for a few years. At one point I could see him in my peripheral vision. We have shared altered states and out of body experiences, even at great distances and spontaneously, in the past. It seemed to me that he was asking for my help.
As it happened, he was dying of cancer at the time. I did not know that he was close to death, we were in different cities and had not made contact for maybe a few years.
It was not until much later (months) that I decided to do google searches etc to find him, or see what I might find.
I found a page dedicated to his memory, as he had passed in the April after the tsunami.
Make of that what you will.

Ghost stories are plentiful in Japan. The stories related in the OP remind me of the vanishing hitchhikers motorists in America have reported encountering. A good friend's uncle has a vanishing hitchhiker story that he claims happened to him while in San Francisco.
Yes, it is not a single culture reporting this.
