An omnipotent God always has an infinite number of ways to make His will come to fruition. Any action by God is "because He felt like it".
Plus, as Smoke pointed out, God hardened Pharaoh's heart. God ensured that any possible good coming from the action would be ineffective.

Words cannot express the irony.
Sad to see folks willing to defend a people who enslaved tens of thousands at that time, no wonder we have such trouble getting equal rights for gays.

You can use your irony meter in these sort of situations. Since the hypocriscy is so closely linked to irony, your can infer from the irony meter the presence of hypocriscy.
Do you mind explaining your reasoning? Who is the bigger hypocrite? The Christian supporting gay rights.......or people who claim they support gay rights but also feel bad for slave owners being punished? Of course I could just be pointing out how intellectual dishonesty can get you into trouble.
